Decanter

Drouhin's Clos des Mouches 2023 exemplifies the vintage's potential for delicious whites. The wine has lush, forward aromas of Mirabelle plums and quince with hints of marzipan, butter, and a touch of stylishly smoky reduction. The texture is supple and dense, but the richness is kept in balance and the extract carries the wine to a lingering finish. Parts of the 7ha vineyard have been replanted; the old vines that produce this bottling have delivered a wine of great character.

Double magnum served at Caractère by Véronique Drouhin. Sweet, rich, ripe and already very appealing. Impressively persistent. (JR)

Le Figaro Vin

A citrusy, vibrant, generous nose heralds a complex palate that layers strata of aromas, combining fruit, minerality and fresh herbs, all in impeccably balanced harmony. A truly great white Burgundy.

Palate
The attack is broad and unctuous. The palate captivates with its silky texture and perfect balance between richness and tension, extending into a persistent, elegant finish.

Food and Wine Pairing

This great white wine from Burgundy will elevate refined dishes such as roasted lobster, seared scallops, poultry in cream sauce, or a Cîteaux cheese.

The Pure Expression of a Legendary Beaune Terroir

The Estate

Founded in 1880, the House of Joseph Drouhin has established itself as an unrivaled reference in France. Now led by the fourth generation, the family estate pursues excellence through an environmentally responsible approach. A pioneer in organic and biodynamic viticulture, the estate strives to faithfully express the nuances of each individual plot.

The Vineyard

The Beaune 1er Cru "Clos des Mouches" comes from an emblematic 14-hectare plot located at the southern edge of the appellation. Planted on clay-limestone soil interspersed with marl, the vines benefit from an ideal exposure that allows the grapes to reach optimal ripeness. The name of this historic clos refers to bees, once known locally as "mouches à miel" (honey flies).

The Vintage

The 2023 vintage stands out for its contrasting weather conditions, combining a mild spring with a hot, sunny summer. These factors fostered impeccable sanitary conditions and excellent aromatic concentration, resulting in white wines of great freshness and vibrant energy.

Winemaking and Aging

Following meticulous hand-harvesting, the grapes are gently pressed. Fermentation takes place in oak barrels, followed by an aging period of 12 to 15 months. This period allows the wine to refine its structure and develop its aromatic complexity, with a carefully controlled proportion of new oak to preserve the brightness of the fruit.

Grape Variety

Chardonnay (100%).
