Not a big wine like this village can produce, but a refined, elegant one with ethereal fruit and floral aromas, then succulent red cherries, raspberries and spearmint on a silky, almost-soft texture. Medium-bodied. Drink now or hold.

Five different blocks. Barrel-aged wine blended in tank. Tank sample. Pale crimson. Polished and vibrant. There is real energy here with a dry finish. Impressive for a village wine! Long. (JR)

Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Vosne-Romanée Village 2022 Joseph Drouhin

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a beautiful red hue, enhanced by intense, luminous highlights.

Nose
Remarkably complex, the nose reveals aromas of wild cherry, nutmeg, fine leather and camphor wood, before opening up to subtle notes of truffle.

Palate
Full-bodied and robust, the palate offers a perfect balance between acidity and tannins. The powerful attack precedes a long, lingering finish, revealing a harmony typical of its terroir.

Food and Wine Pairing

This red wine pairs perfectly with refined poultry dishes such as duck breast with cherries, guinea fowl with morels or duck breast with honey and sweet spices. It also goes wonderfully with tender meats such as veal fillet with mushrooms, as well as autumnal dishes such as porcini mushroom risotto. When it comes to cheese, opt for creamy or washed-rind varieties such as Brillat-Savarin, Cîteaux or Saint-Nectaire.

Service and Storage

To fully appreciate this Vosne-Romanée Village 2022, we recommend serving it at a temperature of 15 to 16°C, after aerating for around 30 minutes. This wine can already be enjoyed after a few years of patience and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2037.

The Complexity and Elegance of a Vosne-Romanée Wine by Joseph Drouhin

The Estate

Founded in 1880 in Beaune, the Joseph Drouhin House is a key figure in Burgundy. Initially a négociant, the estate has built up an extensive vineyard heritage over the decades. Now run by Frédéric Drouhin, representing the fourth generation, the estate oversees around 93 to 109 hectares of vines spread across numerous prestigious appellations. A pioneer in soil conservation, the house has been certified organic since 2009 and applies biodynamic methods to fully express the authenticity of its terroirs.

The Vineyard

This Vosne-Romanée comes from plots located in the communes of Vosne-Romanée and Flagey-Echezeaux, at the heart of the famous Côte de Nuits in France. Facing east, the vines thrive on shallow soils composed of limestone and clay-marl. This specific geology ensures optimal drainage while retaining the necessary moisture, providing ideal conditions for growing vines.

The Vintage

The 2022 vintage stands out for its particularly warm, dry and sunny weather conditions in Burgundy. Despite these record temperatures, the growing cycle unfolded very favourably. The harvest began at the end of August in the Côte de Nuits, allowing grapes with excellent phenolic ripeness to be picked.

Winemaking and Aging

The grapes for this Vosne-Romanée Village 2022 are hand-harvested in small perforated crates, then rigorously sorted. Vinification begins with full destemming, followed by fermentation and maceration for two to three weeks in small open vats, thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts. Ageing then takes place for 14 to 16 months in French oak barrels, 20 to 25% of which are new.
