The Elegance and Complexity of a Great Burgundy Wine
The Estate
Founded in 1731, the Louis Latour Maison is a historic institution in Burgundy. Established in Aloxe-Corton, this 48-hectare family estate holds the largest area of vines classified as Grand Cru in the region. Today, the estate is run by Christophe Deola, while Eléonore Latour, representing the twelfth generation, holds the position of brand director. True to its values of tradition and respect for terroir, the estate stands out for its use of indigenous yeasts and the production of its own barrels within its in-house cooperage.
The Vineyard
The Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Chaumes" comes from a plot ideally situated north of Nuits-Saint-Georges, at the same altitude as the village of Vosne-Romanée and close to the famous climat "Aux Malconsorts". The Pinot Noir vines thrive on iron-rich soils, giving the grapes optimal ripeness and a distinctive minerality. Historically, the term "Chaumes" referred to land in France once left fallow before being transformed into an exceptional wine-growing terroir.
The Vintage
This year's weather conditions allowed for perfect grape health and optimal berry ripeness, ensuring a high-quality harvest.
Winemaking and Ageing
For this Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Chaumes" 2024, the grapes are hand-harvested using wicker baskets. After rigorous sorting and destemming, fermentation begins in stainless steel vats with indigenous yeasts, under controlled temperatures, accompanied by natural punching down of the cap. Maceration is short, lasting 12 to 15 days. The wine is then transferred by gravity to continue its fermentation and ageing for 10 to 12 months in French oak barrels (40% new), made by the Maison's own cooperage. Malolactic fermentation and two gravity rackings complete this meticulous process.
