Vinum

Complex, promising, youthful aromas marked by maturation; full attack, dense development, substance, breed and structure, with particular length on accents of blackcurrant blossom and gooseberry; a great white wine that should definitely be allowed to age a bit.

This is very linear and minerally with subtle mango and apple, as well as some pineapple and bitter lemon. It’s medium-to full-bodied with a creamy texture and great tension and energy. Heather and lavender undertones. Steely. Tangy finish. Subtle and fine. This is a joy to taste and drink now, but will age beautifully.

Pale yellow-green, silver reflections. Nuances of grapefruit, lemon zest and guava, white flowers, lily of the valley, a multi-faceted bouquet with a hint of roasted aromas. Textured, elegant, white peach, a finesse-rich acid structure, fresh lychee, mineral, a hint of sweetness on the finish, balanced and well-developed, nuances of pineapple, salty finish.

A refined example with both ripeness and freshness, perfect oak equilibrium; there’s a tropical hint with fresh pineapple, lime, lemongrass and stony notes. There’s great tension on the palate, complex and layered in an earlier-picked style, yet with fat, texture and length.

I continue to absolutely love the white from this estate, and their 2019 Château Margaux Pavillon Blanc is another brilliant release. All Sauvignon Blanc, it has a vibrant sense of minerality and chalkiness as well as notes of honeyed grapefruit, melon, and white flowers. As pure, focused, and balanced as they come, it's medium to full-bodied, has bright acidity and a great mid-palate, as well as concentration. It's approachable today yet will benefit from a year or three in the cellar and should be very long-lived.

The 2019 Pavillon Blanc du Chateau Margaux is 100% Sauvignon Blanc. The nose starts out a little sluggish before giving way to a core of green apples, fresh lemons, and lime leaves, followed by hints of sea spray and almonds. The medium-bodied palate is crisp and intense, with loads of citrus and mineral sparks on the long finish.

La RVF

One of the estate’s white wines that is among the most balanced and refined we have tasted. Gorgeous notes of white fruit and flowers. Perfectly judged oak management

The bouquet of Pavillon immediately shows a classic side, at least in terms of freshness, then a more tropical note with hints of papaya followed by anise. On the palate, the wine is delicate, elegant, gourmand and already very approachable. A serious, well-crafted wine, and yet, considering the tremendous level of the reds, there is an undeniable potential for further improvement!

Description

The freshness and richness of an exceptional Sauvignon Blanc by Château Margaux

The estate
With origins dating back to the 12th century, Château Margaux is a legendary estate and one of the most prestigious Classified Growths of Bordeaux. In 1855, the château was awarded the title of First Classified Growth and was one of only four estates to obtain a rating of twenty out of twenty. With the acquisition of the property by André Mentzelopoulos in 1977, Château Margaux is today writing a new page in its history. Originally known as "the Sauvignon of Château Margaux", the white wine of the property has become "Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux" with a label that has remained unchanged since 1920. An exceptional vintage produced in very limited quantities, the Pavillon Blanc was made in the new ultra-modern winery designed by the architect Norman Foster.

The vineyard
The vineyard of Château Margaux owes its unique character to its rare terroir, situated on an outcropping of gravel. The very rare Pavillon Blanc by Château Margaux comes from 11 hectares planted with Sauvignon Blanc. The vineyard is located on a very old plot of the property.

The vintage
2019 will be remembered as the hottest year ever recorded in France. After a mild winter and a warm spring marked by significant precipitation, the summer of 2019 brought with it scorching temperatures. At Château Margaux, the white harvest began on September 2 and ended on September 12 under perfect conditions. The work carried out by the R&D teams of the estate for the past 5 years has made it possible to adapt the yields to each terroir. Today, the Pavillon Blanc by Château Margaux offers a unique style that makes it stand out from the rest. Thanks to constant monitoring of the vine throughout the vegetative cycle and limited water stress, the grapes revealed a superb sugar-acidity balance.

The blend
100% sauvignon blanc.

The tasting
Product of a great vintage ending in 9, the Pavillon Blanc 2019 by Château Margaux is reminiscent of the 2017, a great year for Bordeaux Blancs Secs. The aromatic bouquet is intense, evolving complex notes through a great precision. Still in the process of ripening, the 2019 Pavillon Blanc of Château Margaux will continue to mature and acquire this characteristic texture and density on the palate. The acidity lingers long, offering freshness and a very pleasant tension. The elegance and slender silhouette of the Pavillon Blanc 2019 by Château Margaux stand as a testament to the grandeur of the Margaux terroir and the Sauvignon Blanc grapes grown there.
