Description

Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Vin de France "Gamine" 2022 by Pierre-Jean Villa

Tasting

Colour
The wine shows an intense red hue, enhanced by highly luminous violet highlights.

Nose
Particularly open and refined, the bouquet immediately releases aromas of crunchy red fruits such as raspberry, cherry and blackcurrant. This fruity backbone then gains depth with floral notes reminiscent of violet, underscored by a hint of white pepper and subtle suggestions of black fruit chutney.

Palate
From the first sip, the palate is lively, frank and full of energy. The wine unfolds a fluid texture, perfectly supported by tannins of great finesse and lovely suppleness. The fruity aromatics are fully expressed, complemented by touches of liquorice and a mineral thread reminiscent of granite, leading to a finish of great elegance and persistence.

Food and Wine Pairings

This red wine pairs wonderfully with white meats with herbs, summer skewers and dishes with Mediterranean accents such as ratatouille. It will also match beautifully with a porcini mushroom risotto, grilled meats without heavy sauces, as well as soft cheeses or fine charcuterie.

Serving and Cellaring

Ideally served at a temperature between 14 and 16°C, this "Gamine" 2022 can be fully enjoyed now, but it will continue to develop its complexity in the cellar and can be drunk until approximately 2027.

The Authentic Expression of a Great Rhône Valley Wine

The Estate

Founded in 2009 by Pierre-Jean Villa, the estate now extends over around twenty hectares spread across prestigious appellations. After a career rich in learning, the founder has raised his vineyard to a place among the region's essential references. Certified organic since 2021, the estate is currently run by Pierre-Jean Villa himself, supported by his children, Hugo and Pauline. Together, they perpetuate a philosophy that respects all living things, aiming to produce cuvées that faithfully reflect the identity of their terroirs.

The Vineyard

Produced under the Vin de France designation, this cuvée comes from young vines growing on very steep terroirs, where the slope rules out any mechanisation and demands rigorous manual work. The soils display great geological complexity, combining formations of granite, gneiss and schist.

The Vintage

The 2022 vintage was marked by extremely hot weather and a lack of rainfall throughout most of the summer season, causing significant water stress. This heat considerably accelerated the vine's cycle, resulting in very early harvests that required multiple passes to pick each plot at the optimal moment.

Vinification and Ageing

For the "Gamine" 2022, the vinifications are carried out with minimal intervention. Fermentations take place naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts, while key stages such as racking and bottling follow the lunar cycles. Ageing lasts between twelve and twenty-four months and uses a variety of vessels, including barrels, foudres, demi-muids and stoneware jars.
