Bérêche et Fils : Key Points

Founded in 1847 by Leon and Albert Bereche, it wasn’t until the 1970’s that the Bereche et Fils Champagne House began producing and bottling their own wines at the estate. Representing the 5th generation of their family at the House, Raphael and Vincent Bereche currently run the 25-acre estate, which has been converted to organic farming and adopted some biodynamic methods as well. The estate’s 21 distinct plots are dedicated to equal parts Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier vines, which are cultivated with a naturalistic approach. At the winery, fermentation is carried out using native yeasts only, 80% in French oak barrels, with malolactic fermentation largely avoided. During secondary fermentation, the bottles are sealed with cork closures instead of crown caps in order to allow a microscopic amount of oxygen to enter. The wine is disgorged manually, dosed and bottled without filtration. Bereche et Fils produces a gorgeous portfolio of grower champagnes, including their spicy, nutty NV Brut Reserve, their Les Beaux Regards Blanc de Blancs made exclusively with Pinot Meunier and their single-village vintage champagne Le Cran from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
