Characteristics and tasting notes of the Pernand-Vergelesses 1er cru "Sous Frétille" 2023 Remoissenet Père et Fils
Tasting
Colour
Pale golden in hue, this wine reveals beautiful clarity.
Nose
The bouquet opens with elegant aromas of white flowers and citrus fruits. It then reveals subtle notes of hazelnut and toasted almond, underpinned by a mineral backbone characteristic of its terroir.
Palate
With a linear and refined structure, the palate offers a medium body carried by a refreshing acidity. Citrus and white peach flavours mingle with delicate buttery touches. The finish, of impressive length, stands out for its persistent chalky minerality.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs beautifully with light poultry dishes, pan-seared white fish such as turbot or sole, and seafood. It also goes perfectly with soft-rind cheeses.
Service and storage
For optimal enjoyment, it is recommended to serve this Pernand-Vergelesses 1er cru "Sous Frétille" 2023 at a temperature between 10 and 12°C. This wine can be enjoyed now and will continue to evolve in the cellar until at least 2030.
The mineral elegance of a white Burgundy by Remoissenet Père et Fils
The estate
Founded in 1877 by Pierre-Alfred Remoissenet, the house of Remoissenet Père et Fils is a historic institution in Burgundy, based in the heart of Beaune above 14th-century medieval cellars. Acquired in 2005 by American financier Edward L. Milstein, the current owner, the estate has undergone a genuine qualitative renewal. The domaine stands out for its dual identity: a meticulous négociant business alongside the cultivation of its own vineyards, farmed according to biodynamic principles, resulting in wines of remarkable precision.
The vineyard
The "Sous Frétille" climat enjoys a privileged location on the upper slopes of the Pernand-Vergelesses appellation. Facing south-east, the vines flourish on pronounced slopes that favour optimal drainage. The terroir rests on shallow soils composed of limestone, clay and calcareous marl, giving the wine its distinctive mineral signature.
The vintage
The year 2023 stands out as one of the hottest, marked by extreme temperatures and significant water stress throughout the growing season. These conditions led to early berry ripeness. The harvest required rigorous sorting to remove fruit affected by the drought, nevertheless yielding a generous and high-quality crop.
Winemaking and aging
The hand-harvested grapes are carefully vinified. The fermentation of this Pernand-Vergelesses 1er cru "Sous Frétille" 2023 takes place in French oak barrels. The wine is then aged on the lees, giving it complexity and roundness.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
