Description

Tasting characteristics and recommendations for the Le Vigne Sibi et Paucis 2015 cuvée from Sandrone Luciano

Tasting

Color
The color displays a beautiful garnet hue with ruby reflections, testifying to the harmonious evolution of this Barolo after several years of aging.

Nose
Initially closed, the nose gradually opens with aeration to reveal aromas of red and black fruits, accompanied by sweet spices, subtle woody notes and undergrowth.

Palate
The palate unveils tannins still slightly closed but an ample and complex fruity substance. The lively acidity brings freshness while the ripe and distinct tannins express themselves with length.

Service and aging
The Le Vigne Sibi et Paucis 2015 is ideally enjoyed at a temperature between 18 and 20°C. Its aging potential extends until 2041 and beyond, with an optimal drinking window recommended between 2029 and 2050 approximately.

An exceptional Piémont wine from the Sibi et Paucis project by Sandrone Luciano

The estate
Founded in 1978 when Luciano Sandrone produced his first vintage in the family garage, this emblematic Piémont estate embodies the excellence of Barolo. Established at the foot of the Cannubi hill, the vineyard extends over several prestigious terroirs of Barolo and Roero. Since Luciano's death in January 2023, his daughter Barbara and his son Luca perpetuate a unique philosophy merging tradition and modernity. With limited production and extremely low yields, Sandrone Luciano produces wines of remarkable elegance possessing exceptional aging potential.

The vineyard
The Barolo Le Vigne Sibi et Paucis 2015 comes from a multi-parcel blend including notably the prestigious sites of Vignane in the commune of Barolo and Villero in Castiglione Falletto. These vineyards are cultivated in a manner close to nature, respecting the principles of sustainable viticulture. Each parcel brings its singularity, reflecting the diversity of soils, altitudes and exposures characteristic of the Barolo appellation.

The vintage
The year 2015 was marked in Piémont by seven weeks of intense heat from late June to August 14, followed by rains that inaugurated a long cool maturation period of twelve weeks. Viticultural practices adapted to warm years, notably late leaf removal and free foliage management, made it possible to avoid overripeness and bitterness of phenolic compounds. The harvest took place from October 4 to 17, giving birth to generous, voluminous wines, endowed with beautiful structure and well-ripened tannins.

Vinification and aging
The grapes dedicated to the Le Vigne Sibi et Paucis 2015 cuvée are harvested, vinified and aged separately before being blended before bottling. Spontaneous fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts in open steel tanks, accompanied by maceration. Malolactic fermentation and aging take place in 500-liter French barrels. The Sibi et Paucis project represents Luciano Sandrone's conviction that nebbiolo reveals its true nature after years of silent evolution. This cuvée benefited from additional aging of six years in Luciano's personal cellar after the initial release date of September 2019, for a total of 24 months in barrels followed by 120 months in bottle. The wine is filtered before bottling.

Grape variety
100% nebbiolo.
