Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Mâcon-Pierreclos "Lieu Secret" 2025 from Verget
Tasting notes
Appearance
Clear and luminous, the pale yellow colour is enhanced by subtle pale green highlights.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of ripe white fruit and citrus, intertwined with delicate floral touches. With aeration, mineral nuances of gunflint, fresh hazelnut and brioche enrich the whole.
Palate
Ample, full and round, the palate seduces with its satiny texture and great density. Supported by a beautiful mineral framework, it stretches towards a long, flavourful finish marked by saline notes and ripe citrus.
Food and Wine Pairings
This white wine pairs wonderfully with seafood such as pan-seared scallops or sea bass ceviche. It also elevates white meats in cream sauce, a wild mushroom risotto or a mature goat's cheese.
Serving and Cellaring
The Mâcon-Pierreclos "Lieu Secret" 2025 reveals great ageing potential and can be cellared for many years to develop its full complexity.
The Richness and Minerality of a White Mâcon-Pierreclos Wine
The Estate
Founded in 1990 in Sologny, in Burgundy, the négociant house Verget was created by Jean-Marie Guffens. Still the owner today, he relies on technical director Julien Desplans to perpetuate the estate's excellence. A true reference in the Mâconnais, Verget stands out for its philosophy of purchasing grapes exclusively, which allows complete control over the winemaking. The cuvées produced precisely reflect the mosaic of Burgundy terroirs, raising these wines to the pinnacle of their appellation.
The Vineyard
The Mâcon-Pierreclos vineyard is centred around three small plots (Puisat, Le Carruge and En Craz) that encircle the famed Chavigne sector. Set on well-exposed, free-draining slopes, the vines thrive in clay-limestone soils of Jurassic origin, made up of white marls and clayey limestones. This early-ripening terroir is farmed using sustainable viticulture, respectful of its environment.
Winemaking and Ageing
The harvest of the Mâcon-Pierreclos "Lieu Secret" 2025 is carried out by hand. In the cellar, the whole bunches undergo gentle pressing before a natural fermentation triggered by indigenous yeasts. Ageing takes place on fine lees for around ten months, split between stainless steel tanks and oak barrels, with a moderate proportion of new wood.
