Decanter

This mid-sized maison is run by the sixth generation of the Boizel family. In the superb 2019 vintage, they produced a range of limited-edition cuvées highlighting specific terroirs rather than traditional blends. Tours-sur-Marne is rarely seen as a single-village Champagne (being mostly known as the location of the house Laurent-Perrier). It has always held grand cru status and shares similar fine chalky soils with its grand cru neighbour Bouzy. South-facing vines near the Marne river. Fermented entirely in stainless steel, with five years on lees. Tom Hewson: Smooth red apple and raspberry fruit. Some dried pear maturity. Broad, fine Pinot fruit with plenty of grip and stature. Imposing. Eugenio Egorov: Fresh and complex nose with mature fruit, bread crust and herbs. Great tension and freshness; mature fruit and a rounded mousse. Sarah Knowles MW: Good, classic lemon and buttered toast notes. Firm and fresh. Needs time.
