Grosset has fashioned a non-vintage Grand Reserve Brut offering pleasant, yeasty bread notes intermixed with spicy pears, apple skins, and grapefruit. Medium-bodied, crisp, and impressively endowed, it should be consumed over the next 4–5 years. Importer: Palm Bay Imports, Boca Raton, FL; tel. (561) 362-9642. Reviewed by RMP

Decanter

Gosset is the oldest house in Champagne and a favourite among wine trade insiders. This non-vintage cuvée is redolent with the aromas of mellow red apple fruit. It shows beautifully subtle autolysis on the palate, with creamy apple and plum flavours, and great precision at the same time.

This has attractive aromas of apricots, pie crust, raspberries, fresh walnuts and pears, with a hint of white pepper and ginger. Elegant, fine and supple mousse, with a medium body and creamy layers of fresh fruit and pastries. So dry and clean. 45% chardonnay, 45% pinot noir and 10% meunier, based on 2017 vintage with 8% reserve wines. 7g/L dosage. Drink now.

Medium straw color. Low-toned aromas of toffee, mocha, maple syrup and baking spices. Big, rich, dense and smooth; brighter and more harmonious than the Excellence Brut. Nicely delineated, slightly oily flavors of apple, nutmeg and toast. The firm acids are well integrated. Finishes ripe, youthful and impressively long.

Subtle notes of fresh almond pastry hover above the lemony nose that signals great freshness. The palate is bright and vivacious. Despite being exquisitely slender, and possessing the house’s signature steeliness, there is much depth and resonance to be found in the subtle autolysis and the gentle stone-fruit hints that play on the mid-palate and the long finish. A most elegant aperitif style.

With a base from 2018, the NV Champagne Grande Reserve Brut pours a bright straw hue and lifts from the glass with pure and inviting aromas of white peach, fresh flowers, and wet stone. Medium-bodied, with a fresh lift on the palate, a fresh pillowy mousse, and a delicate saline finish, this is a wonderful calling card for the freshness of the house style. Drink 2023-2030.

Gosset’s Grande Réserve Brut NV is a blend of 45% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay, with 10% Pinot Meunier, aged a minimum of four years on lees and finished with an eight grams per liter dosage. Fragrant and assertive, the nose shows aromas of preserved lemon, red currant, elderflower, chalk, whipped butter, and honey. Medium-bodied, with vibrant, shimmering acidity and plush red-fruit concentration, the palate is elegant and balanced throughout, with pretty floral notes on the finish. 92

A beautiful colour, with an open nose offering a palette marked by Pinot varieties. The fruit is nicely ripe, with hints of stone kernel and mirabelle plum. The wine shows good substance with a tasty texture and creamy mousse. The juice is serious, with a dosage that smooths the edges without excess.

Earthy and truffley in an attractive and complex way, this fairly mature offering has a full mouthfeel and rich apple and plum flavors. The long finish brings tart plums. This has the stuffing to be used as a dining Champagne, and the reserved elegance required for drinking alone or with hors d'oeuvres.

Description

A Gourmand and Generous Brut Champagne

The oldest Champagne House with a history dating back to 1584, Champagne Gosset has a unique identity, expressed through the distinctive shape of its bottle, which was inspired by the "antique" bottles used in the 18th century. The Gosset Grande Réserve is the estate’s emblematic flagship cuvée, bearing Gosset's signature "subtle and refined" style.

A blend of 45% Chardonnay, 45% Pinot Noir and 10% Pinot Meunier from several different villages, including Aÿ (where Gosset is located), Ambonnay and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, the Champagne Gosset Brut Grande Réserve spent at least 3 years in the estate cellar before seeing the light of day. With 8 grams of sugar per litre, this is a generous wine, showing off a beautiful golden colour. Characterised by plenty of fresh fruit, the nose is generous, exuding yellow fruits, like plum. On the palate, the generosity of the Brut Grande Reserve de Gosset is reflected in its great volume, which is balanced by delicate aromas of white flowers and a certain acidity, the source of freshness, highlighted by citrus notes.

This wine is not only gourmand but also gourmet, pairing beautifully with a wide range of dishes, including poultry, seafood and hard cheeses.
