Description

Tasting characteristics and advice for Clos des Goisses Juste Rosé 2014 from Philipponnat

Tasting

Appearance

The appearance reveals a pale pink hue with subtle coppery highlights, threaded with a stream of particularly fine, persistent bubbles.

Nose

Very elegant, the nose opens with notes of mandarin and pomegranate juice. With aeration, aromas of white pepper and spices enrich the bouquet.

Palate

Fresh and silky, the palate reveals flavors of mandarin and vine peach, accompanied by a light spicy touch. The finish offers a pleasant mineral tension that brings complexity and length.

Food and wine pairings

Particularly suited to gastronomy, this Champagne pairs perfectly with roasted pigeon with a raspberry accent. It also elegantly accompanies delicate poultry, mushroom-based dishes, or a platter of aged cheeses.

Serving and cellaring

Clos des Goisses Juste Rosé 2014 is best enjoyed at a temperature between 8 and 10°C. After nine years of aging in the cellar, this Champagne has reached perfect maturity while retaining considerable cellaring potential for decades to come.

An outstanding rosé Champagne from the steepest terroir in Champagne

The estate

Founded in 1910 by Auguste and Pierre Philipponnat in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, the Philipponnat House draws on a winegrowing heritage dating back to 1522. Acquired in 1935, Clos des Goisses is the jewel of the estate, with its 5.5 hectares of walled vineyards. Now led by Charles Philipponnat and cellar master Thierry Garnier, the House received in 2023 the prestigious three-star distinction from the La Revue des Vins de France guide, becoming the eighth Champagne house to earn this recognition.

The vineyard

Clos des Goisses is an exceptional vineyard located in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, renowned as the steepest in Champagne, with a slope reaching 45 degrees. Completely enclosed by walls since 1887, it benefits from a unique due-south exposure, making it the sunniest terroir in the region. The soil, composed of pure chalk, gives the wine its remarkable minerality. Vineyard management, certified Haute Valeur Environnementale, has excluded all herbicides and chemical pesticides for more than thirty years. Work is carried out by hand or with draft horses due to the extreme slope.

The 2014 vintage is the tenth edition of Clos des Goisses Juste Rosé since its first production in 1999.

Vinification and aging

Clos des Goisses Juste Rosé 2014 is crafted according to a rigorous method: 30% of the wine is vinified as saignée rosé after pre-fermentation cold maceration, while the remaining 70% undergoes white-wine vinification. Around 70% of the blend is vinified in oak, without malolactic fermentation in order to preserve its natural freshness. The Champagne benefited from aging on lees for at least eight years in the house’s historic cellars before disgorgement.
