Château Coufran 2008

A solid if uninspiring effort, the 2008 exhibits notes of herbs, white chocolate and black cherries along with medium body and a quick finish. Drink it over the next 2-3 years.

Very attractive aromas of incense and blueberries. Medium to full body, very fine tannins and a pretty integration of fruit. Well done for the vintage. Drink now or hold.

Very dark crimson. Ripe and succulent. Lots of effort in this wine. Late picked? Quite exciting and velvety with fine tannins. (JR)

Medium bodied, with earth and cherry tones, this uncomplicated wine ends with a rustic texture in the finish.

Deep garnet with purple highlights. Sweet bouquet of freshly cooked black plums, with attractive oak tones. A velvety, juicy palate with good fruit intensity, finishing on blackberries. Slightly favored this year due to the high proportion of Merlot.

Alcoholic, slender bouquet with red berries and wood. Slim, hollow palate with dry tannins, little fruit. Drying finish. 15/20 2015 - 2022

The attack is dense and tannic, the substance undeniable; the wine is strict in a style closer to Saint-Estèphe, the neighboring appellation.

It’s a simple yet well-crafted wine, offering a friendly, slightly flowing palate, with gentle tannins and medium length.

In the far north of the Haut-Médoc, Château Coufran is under the same ownership as Verdigan. It has perhaps a more austere character than its stablemate, with also more potential for aging. The fruit is structured and solid, a very textured wine.
