Plows straight ahead, with a rather towering display of cassis as well as cherry and plum reduction notes that are pure, defined and deftly supported by a seamlessly embedded iron spine. Features light savory, floral and red tea notes that flash in the background, while the fruit glistens through the extremely lengthy finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The wine is dense, concentrated, massive. It has a perfect combination of spice, dark fruits and tannins giving impressive potential. The wine is likely to take many years. Drink from 2027.

Gorgeous nose with a soft sweetness to the fruit aromas - a quality of the cooler year with freshness and vibrancy to the fruit profile. A great core of black fruits - blackcurrant, plums and cherries, balancing power but also succulence in the best way. Muscular but refined and finessed, feels so well constructed with harmonious tannins. The texture is smooth, deep and coursing but with such elegance to the overall frame. Deep and concentrated, but I love the touches of sour cherry and then smoky, liquorice aspects with a mineral freshness. It feels as if when it's ready it will expand and just give and give. I love it.

This is incredibly complex, with all the cabernet descriptors, from mint and lead pencil to blackberry, blackcurrant and menthol. It changes all the time in the glass, just as in the nose. Yet, it remains cool and classy. Full-bodied with very fine, tight tannins that run the length of the wine, carrying on and on and on. Well-framed and compact wine. Never-ending procession of currant, berry and black cherry fruit, together with licorice, earth and just a hint of black truffle. 90% cabernet sauvignon, 9% merlot and 1% petit verdot. Give this until 2028 to show its true greatness.

The 2019 Mouton Rothschild has come together beautifully since I tasted it from barrel. Today, it is unquestionably one of the wines of the vintage. Powerful and statuesque in its beauty, Mouton is remarkable in every way. Layers of dark-toned fruit confer seriousness and intensity that builds with time. All of the finesse I saw in barrel is still present. Since then, the 2019 has gained flesh and vibrancy. Magnificent!

Mouton Rothschild hasn't skipped a beat since the sublime 2009 vintage! 2019 continues their winning streak with one of the wines of the vintage. Almost opaque in color, the nose resonates with its showy display of Asian spices, cigar wrapper, fresh herbs, cigar box, blackberries, crushed stone and cassis. Full-bodied, richly concentrated, opulent, and equally refined, the multi-layered display of flawlessly ripe berries, elegant textures, balance, freshness and flamboyance is what the great vintages of Mouton are all about. The finish crosses the 60 second mark with ease. Drink from 2035-2070.

Dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, subtle brightening on rim. Fine dark berry fruit, a hint of cassis and liquorice, fresh tangerine zest, nuances of cedar, the bouquet exercises noble restraint. Complex, full-bodied, super elegant texture, fine expression, ripe, long, silky tannins, great density, ripe cherries, mineral, fine spice, convincing length, certain ageing potential, will enter maturity early, so make sure to stock up. Lovely intensity with fine toast, coffee bean, fine oak, layers of inky black fruit. It’s got an impressive structure with great concentration and power, yet silky and plush with cocoa powder-like tannin, a mille-feuille of fresh dark fruit, high ripeness and intensity yet balanced by a vigorous freshness and fine tannins. Enormously long finish, a very complete wine.

The 2019 Château Mouton Rothschild is based on 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot, and it hit a relatively normal alcohol level of 13.5%, which is higher than the 2009 and shows the quality of the Cabernet Sauvignon in the vintage. It shows the new, modern style of Bordeaux in its purity, elegance, and finesse while still being an incredibly concentrated Pauillac, and where some vintages of Mouton can just about jump out of the glass, this is a more seamless, streamlined, elegant beauty that builds with time in the glass and is just about impossible to fault. Gorgeous crème de cassis, lead pencil shavings, forest floor, licorice, damp earth, and graphite, as well as some espresso nuances, emerge on the nose, and it's rich, medium to full-bodied, has ultra-fine tannins, and a great finish. This is pure haute couture in Bordeaux that unquestionably offers pleasure today (again, just about all modern Bordeaux from a great vintage offer pleasure in their youth) but will require a solid decade to hit maturity, and it should evolve for 20, 30, 40 years or more. This is not an unformed beast of wine that demands bottle age, and I suspect it will have a broad, forgiving drink window that consumers will love.

90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot, 100% new oak. Opaque purple with ruby highlights. A concentrated, black-berry bouquet with plenty of blackcurrant and sandalwood, followed by nougat chocolates, violet and liquorice. A supremely fine, complex Mouton bouquet. On the regal palate, a creamy texture and tightly knit tannin framework, underpinned by perfectly balanced verve that lends the wine an uplifting feel. The aromatic finish sets off a firework display of Alpine bilberries and amarena cherries in liqueur, ending with a regal astringency. A masterpiece! Like 2010 – “perfect matured,” Philippe says with a smile.

Kunz Fassprobe 2020: (90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot) A concentrated, deep, complex, silky bouquet of blackcurrant, black berries, currants, fine woods, delicate toasted notes, a hint of coconut, dark chocolate, and subtle graphite. The palate is tightly knit and elegant, with finely judged power, dense dark refined fruit, plenty of very fine tannins, compact, nuanced aromatics, a dense, finely muscular structure, and a very long, powerful, fresh finish with many lingering return aromas. Will continue to improve.

The palate is tightly knit and elegant, with refined power, dense dark precise fruit, an abundance of very fine tannins, compact, finely detailed aromatics, and a dense, finely muscular structure. Very long, intense, fresh finish with plenty of lingering nuances. Has further potential to improve. 19/20 2026 - 2060

Takes the character of Petit Mouton and turns it up. Has layers of black cherries dipped in bitter chocolate and coffee with turbo powered tannins and lift. Freshly crushed mint leaf on the finish. A ton of depth, not as creamy as the 2018 Mouton was at this stage, this is more espresso than cappuccino, with layers of vertical tannins that are generous but in control, not willing to give too much away, and it will close down for a good few years. A great Mouton, pure, precise, linear, tight and vertical, making you wait for the kirsch laden opulence but absolutely delivering on its En Primeur promise. Harvest September 18 to October 5. 100% new oak.

The 2019 Mouton Rothschild is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple in color, it is a little broody to start off, soon unfurling to offer notes of creme de cassis, baked plums, and boysenberry preserves, followed by hints of crushed rocks, tree bark, and forest floor. The medium to full-bodied palate is rich, concentrated, and intense, with grainy tannins and a long, lively, mineral-sparked finish. This is still so youthful - moving at a glacial pace - so, give it a good 7-9 years more in cellar and drink it over the following 40-years+.

Mouton 2019 confirms its legendary status, a wine that shows exceptional refinement. From the very first aromas, it asserts its greatness and depth. The palate is immense and broad, with a rich, creamy texture, but above all an energetic fruit that bursts across the mouth.

There is a sense of nobility in this creamy bouquet of graphite and small black berries, delicately ripe, with a rich, generous iris fragrance. On the palate, it feels like drinking a “blue-blood” wine—calm and unflappable—like a high-society lady, proud yet supple, whose voluptuous curves are shaped by a delicate lace corset.

What wonderful intensity and what a classic bouquet! If you had to sum it up very simply, it’s Mouton! It’s even very Mouton… which is just as well, since that’s exactly what it is! Very complex and so authentic, with smoky nuances, notes of pencil lead and cigar box, followed by aromas of blackberries and black cherries. The attack lives up to the bouquet, which is not always a given! The wine has charm, finesse, and an impressive tannic structure that harmonises perfectly with the acidity. A savoury, dense, powerful wine with great length. So much freshness and energy on the finish. A great success.

Dark, purple, youthful colour. Very aromatic, refined nose, fruity, fresh and ripe all at once. A smoky note emerges when the glass is swirled. Precise on the attack and especially flavoursome on the mid-palate, with graceful texture and a body that melts delicately, the wine develops with moderate power into a long finish that gives way to aroma. Particularly harmonious tannin extraction. No austerity for the vintage.
