Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Beaune 1er Cru "Les Montrevenots" 2023 Domaine A.F. Gros

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a luminous golden hue, enhanced by delicate silvery highlights.

Nose
Displaying beautiful complexity, the nose opens on aromas of white fruits such as peach and pear, mingled with citrus notes of grapefruit and mandarin. A chalky minerality intertwines with subtle touches of lavender, before giving way, with aeration, to nuances of toasted almond and white flowers.

Palate
Full-bodied and vibrant, the palate offers a complex texture in which flavours of stone fruit, citrus and white flowers harmonise beautifully. The balance is precisely struck between the generosity of ripe fruit and a refreshing mineral tension. The long, lingering finish stands out for its elegant saline and chalky notes.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs wonderfully with seafood, oysters or scallops. It also complements delicate fish such as sole or turbot in a creamy sauce, roast poultry with tarragon, as well as mature cheeses such as Comté or goat cheese. Pairings with grilled vegetables like asparagus or artichokes are also recommended.

Service and storage

For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve this Beaune 1er Cru "Les Montrevenots" 2023 Domaine A.F. Gros at a temperature between 12 and 14°C, taking care to let it breathe in the glass for a few minutes. This wine can already be enjoyed now, but it will continue to develop and can be kept until around 2036, with a peak expected between 2030 and 2033.

Other characteristics

This wine has an alcohol content of 13.5%. In order to preserve its full aromatic complexity and precision, it is bottled without filtration, which may result in a slight natural sediment over time.

The elegance and minerality of a white wine from Beaune

The estate

Founded in 1988 by Anne-Françoise Gros and her husband François Parent, Domaine A.F. Gros is a key name in Burgundy. Historically renowned for its red wines, the estate spans around 10 hectares. Today, the second generation is at the helm: Caroline Parent manages the commercial side, while Mathias Parent has overseen the vineyard and winemaking since 2013. Their ongoing efforts to express the authenticity of the terroirs were recognised with the title of Winemaker of the Year in 2023.

The vineyard

Acquired in 2022, this exclusive 0.26-hectare plot is located at the southern edge of the commune of Beaune. Rising to between 300 and 320 metres in altitude, the vines benefit from an ideal south-southwest exposure. The terroir consists of clay-limestone soils rich in small pebbles, resting on a plateau of Comblanchien limestone. This distinctive geology promotes excellent drainage and gives the wines a remarkable minerality.

The vintage

The year 2023 was marked by a warm, dry climate, resulting in early ripening of the berries in impeccable sanitary condition. Despite these high summer temperatures, the cool microclimate of the hillside plot helped preserve good natural acidity, ensuring the wine's freshness and balance.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes are harvested entirely by hand, followed by a rigorous double sorting before destemming and tank filling. Mathias Parent's approach favours minimal intervention to let the terroir express itself. This Beaune 1er Cru "Les Montrevenots" 2023 Domaine A.F. Gros is aged for 14 months in French oak barrels, with only 20% new oak, in order to preserve the purity of the fruit and the wine's chalky identity.
