Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Richebourg Grand Cru "Domaine" 2022 Domaine A.F. Gros

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a brilliant ruby red, with a lovely depth typical of sun-drenched vintages, without ever tipping into over-extraction.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals great complexity, exuding subtle notes of wild violet and blackcurrant, a signature hallmark of this great mineral-rich terroir.

Palate
Combining power and elegance to perfection, the palate offers a dense, concentrated texture, underpinned by tannins of great finesse with a silky touch. The whole shines with balance and freshness, extending into a long and particularly complex finish.

Food and Wine Pairing

This great red wine from France pairs majestically with characterful meats, such as furred or feathered game (duck confit, wild boar, venison). It will also enhance herb-roasted lamb, veal escalope with mushrooms, fine cured meats, or forest-inflected vegetarian dishes such as a wild mushroom risotto. As for cheese, opt for hard, mineral-driven varieties such as an aged Comté or a Gruyère.

Service and Storage

For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve this Richebourg Grand Cru "Domaine" 2022 at a temperature of between 15 and 16°C. Built to age, this wine will ideally wait around ten years in the cellar before opening up fully, and can be enjoyed until around 2050.

The Elegance and Power of a Grand Cru from Burgundy

The Estate

Founded in 1988 by Anne-Françoise Gros following the union of her vines with those of her husband François Parent, Domaine A.F. Gros is an unmissable name in Burgundy. Spread between Beaune and Pommard, the estate oversees a vineyard of around 11 hectares. Today, the couple's children, Caroline and Mathias Parent, have been running the estate since 2013. They carry on a historic family expertise while bringing a touch of modernity, producing cuvées celebrated for their pure expression of terroir and recognisable by their labels adorned with women's faces.

The Vineyard

This wine comes from a plot of around 0.60 hectares located on the prestigious climat of Richebourg, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits in Vosne-Romanée. Ideally oriented to the east to capture the morning sun while being sheltered from the wind, the vines, some of which reach the venerable age of 90 years, thrive on the mid-slope. They stand on perfectly drained soil, composed of stones, sand, and clay over a limestone bedrock.

The Vintage

The 2022 vintage was marked by warm weather conditions and exceptional sunshine from spring through to autumn. Following early budbreak and flowering in May, the vineyard benefited from saving rains at the end of June, thereby avoiding water stress during the particularly dry months of July and August. These ideal conditions, combined with a generous harvest, allowed the berries to reach optimal ripeness while retaining lovely freshness ahead of the late-summer harvest.

Winemaking and Aging

The grapes are harvested by hand. For this Richebourg Grand Cru "Domaine" 2022, the winemaking incorporates around 30% whole clusters. After careful destemming that preserves the integrity of the berries, a few days of cold maceration precede fermentation in vats. Extraction is carried out gently through pumping-over followed by daily punching-down. Ageing then takes place entirely in new oak barrels for 12 to 18 months. A first blending takes place after a year, followed by a second before bottling by gravity.

Grape Variety

This wine is made exclusively from Pinot Noir (100%).
