The Delicate and Mineral Expression of a Vosne-Romanée Wine by Domaine A.F. Gros

The estate

Founded in 1988 by Anne-Françoise Gros and François Parent, Domaine A.F. Gros is located in Pommard, in Burgundy, France. Born from the union of historic family vineyards, the estate now spans 14 to 15 hectares. Currently run by Caroline and Mathias Parent, the estate carries on a strong family heritage while introducing measured technical developments. The domaine stands out for its pursuit of the pure expression of terroir and for its distinctive bottles adorned with female portraits, symbolising the family's identity and history.

The vineyard

The grapes come from the lieu-dit Les Hautes Maizières, a historic terroir located in the commune of Vosne-Romanée. Resting on brown limestone soils mixed with silt and marl, the vines benefit from an ideal east and southeast exposure, midway up the slope. The vineyard, which was replanted around 2015, is farmed according to the principles of integrated and sustainable viticulture, including regular ploughing and meticulous management of each plot.

The vintage

2023 follows in the line of vintages marked by warm climatic conditions. Harvesting began early, in the very first days of September. These weather conditions resulted in berries with lower-than-usual malic acidity, while retaining fine balance and great freshness.

Winemaking and aging

After manual harvesting and a rigorous double sorting, the winemaking of the Vosne-Romanée Village "Maizières" 2023 begins with destemming that preserves the integrity of the berries, followed by a four-to-five-day cold maceration. Fermentation, incorporating a proportion of whole bunches, takes place in vats with regular punching down and pumping over. The wine is then gently pressed before aging for 12 to 18 months in oak barrels, 40% of which are new. A two-stage blending process is carried out before gravity bottling.
