Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the Gevrey-Chambertin Village "Jeunes Rois" 2023 from Domaine Bruno Clair

Tasting

Colour
This wine displays a deep, beautiful red hue.

Nose
The nose reveals a lovely aromatic intensity, highlighted by a delicate minerality along with floral and spicy notes.

Palate
The palate is structured and complex. Marked by a certain austerity in its youth, it rests on a firm mineral backbone and promises a fine evolution.

Food and Wine Pairing

This red wine pairs perfectly with coq au vin, simply prepared red meats, or game dishes such as wild boar, duck, or slow-roasted lamb.

Serving and Cellaring

For optimal tasting, this Gevrey-Chambertin Village "Jeunes Rois" 2023 should be served at a temperature between 14 and 17°C. This wine requires a few years of cellaring to fully open up and can be kept until around 2033.

The Authentic Expression of a Great Burgundy Wine

The Estate

Founded in 1979 by Bruno Clair, Domaine Bruno Clair is a key figure in Burgundy. Located in Marsannay-la-Côte, the estate spans a vineyard of 27 hectares spread across eight villages. Today, Bruno Clair runs the estate alongside his children, Édouard, Margaux, and Arthur, who carry on this family expertise. Committed to an environmentally responsible approach with an organic conversion underway, the family favours manual harvesting and the use of compost. The estate is renowned for the consistency and great precision of its cuvées.

The Vineyard

This cuvée comes from the "Jeunes Rois" lieu-dit, located in the commune of Brochon, on the northern edge of the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation. The vines thrive on a south-east-facing slope, with an average gradient of 8% and an altitude of around 288 metres. This distinctive terroir rests on deep soils composed of sandy marl, Comblanchien limestone, and alluvial deposits of schist and gravel, providing excellent drainage and allowing the vine roots to grow deep.

Winemaking and Ageing

Following manual harvesting and rigorous sorting of the bunches, the Gevrey-Chambertin Village "Jeunes Rois" 2023 is vinified in tanks with traditional foot punching-down. Malolactic fermentation takes place late, thanks to the coolness of the estate's deep cellars. The wine is then aged on fine lees in oak barrels for 16 to 22 months, with a proportion of new wood ranging from 20 to 50%.

Grape Variety

Pinot Noir (100%).
