Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Pommard Village "Clos de la Platière" 2023 Domaine du Château de Meursault

Tasting

Colour
With a deep ruby hue, this wine presents itself in a particularly intense and saturated way.

Nose
The bouquet reveals great aromatic complexity, dominated by dense notes of black fruits such as blueberry and black cherry. With aeration, it becomes enriched with delicate floral touches, spice, and a subtle minerality.

Palate
The attack is opulent and elegant. The structure is assertive, supported by ripe, well-present tannins. The perfect balance between fruit, acidity, and tannic structure carries the tasting through to a persistent finish of great depth.

Food and Wine Pairing

This wine pairs wonderfully with characterful red meats such as a beef steak, lamb, or venison. It also enhances feathered game such as duck, as well as traditional Burgundian dishes like beef bourguignon or coq au vin. When it comes to cheese, favour firm, flavourful varieties such as Comté, Époisses, Langres, or Soumaintrain.

Service and Storage

Endowed with remarkable ageing potential, this 2023 vintage will evolve beautifully over the years if kept under optimal cellar conditions.

The Powerful and Elegant Expression of a Great Pommard Wine

The Estate

Founded in the eleventh century, the Domaine du Château de Meursault is a historic and unmissable estate located in the heart of Burgundy. Spanning around sixty-five hectares of vines, this prestigious estate was acquired in 2012 by the Halley family, headed by Olivier Halley. Today, under the direction of Stéphane Follin-Arbelet and cellar master Emmanuel Escutenaire, the estate stands out for its environmental commitment, illustrated by organic certification since 2022. The estate is also home to spectacular underground cellars dating back to the twelfth century.

The Vineyard

This wine comes from a three-hectare plot located within the Clos de la Platière climat, in the prestigious Pommard appellation. The vines thrive on a mid-slope with clay-limestone soils, benefiting from an ideal south to south-west exposure. The entire vineyard is farmed according to organic principles, with meticulous manual work carried out under a task-based system in which each winegrower is responsible for their own plot.

The Vintage

The year 2023 stood out for its exceptional weather conditions across the entire region. This particularly favourable climate allowed the grapes to reach optimal phenolic ripeness, giving rise to a vintage universally praised for its excellence.

Winemaking and Aging

The making of the Pommard Village "Clos de la Platière" 2023 begins with plot-by-plot vinification in gravity-fed facilities, thus preserving the integrity of the berries. Ageing takes place over a period of twelve to eighteen months, punctuated by regular lees stirring to enrich the wine's texture. Before bottling at the château, the wine undergoes gentle fining and light filtration, then rests for at least a year in the cellar before release.

Grape Variety

Pinot Noir (100%).
