The Elegance and Structure of a Pommard Wine
The Estate
The history of the Domaine du Château de Meursault begins in the eleventh century with the founding of the Moulin Foulot estate. Located in the heart of the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy, this historic property now oversees a vast vineyard of around 65 hectares spread across more than a hundred plots. Taken over at the end of 2012 by the Halley family and currently run by Olivier Halley, the estate skilfully combines respect for age-old winemaking traditions with pioneering ecological innovations, establishing itself as an essential reference in the region.
The Vineyard
The "Clos de la Platière" plot, covering three hectares, is a prime terroir within the Pommard appellation. Ideally situated in the middle of the slope, the vines benefit from excellent south to south-west exposure. They thrive on a distinctive clay-limestone soil, characterised by the presence of flat stones in the subsoil, offering optimal conditions for grape growing, carried out here according to the strict principles of organic farming.
The Vintage
The 2024 vintage unfolded against a weather backdrop marked by the challenges of climate change. To address these developments and preserve the balance of the vegetative cycle, particularly during the crucial period of veraison, the vines benefit from the innovative ecological initiatives implemented by the estate, such as the planting of a cooling riparian buffer near the plots.
Winemaking and Aging
The making of the Pommard Village "Clos de la Platière" 2024 begins with a particularly meticulous manual sorting of the bunches at harvest. Vinification continues with a full maceration of the skins in the must throughout alcoholic fermentation to extract colour and structure. Finally, the wine benefits from a gradual aging process using classic methods, allowing its tannins to refine and integrate harmoniously.
