The estate
The E. Guigal estate was founded in 1946 in Ampuis, under the impetus of Étienne Guigal. His son Marcel succeeded him in 1961, and it is now the third generation that continues the legacy and exacting standards of this great family house of the Rhône Valley.
From Côte-Rôtie to Condrieu, via Hermitage, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Saint-Joseph, and Crozes-Hermitage, E. Guigal oversees a true mosaic of vineyards and crafts a range renowned for its consistency and quality.
Over time, the house continued to grow, notably with the acquisition in 1995 of the famous Château d’Ampuis, followed by several estates (Jean-Louis Grippat, Domaine de Vallouit, Domaine de Bonserine, as well as Château de Nalys in Châteauneuf-du-Pape).
The vineyard
Brune et Blonde is a Rhône Valley wine sourced from plots located on very steep terraces. Around 35 years old, the vines grow on schist and siliceous-limestone soils on the Côte-Blonde, while the Côte-Brune stands out for terrains rich in iron oxides.
Winemaking and aging
After strict sorting, vinification is carried out in stainless steel tanks. Regular punch-downs, controlled fermentation temperatures, and a maceration of around three weeks structure the extraction. The wine is then aged for 38 months in oak barrels, 50% of which are new oak.
