Description

Tasting characteristics and advice for Endrizzi’s Masetto Nero 2019

Tasting

Color

The wine displays a ruby-red hue with bright, lively highlights. It shows fine clarity and remarkable viscosity, reflecting careful winemaking.

Nose

The bouquet reveals an elegant aromatic complexity, dominated by notes of black and red fruits: blueberries, raspberries, and cherries. Secondary aromas of cocoa and vanilla add a gourmand dimension, while hints of dried herbs and juniper bring depth. Toasted nuances round out the ensemble harmoniously.

Palate

The attack on the palate unveils a full-bodied, particularly harmonious structure. Black fruit leads the way, supported by pronounced yet perfectly integrated tannins with a fine, silky texture. Bright acidity brings freshness and balance. The finish stands out for its exceptional length, with lingering aromas of ripe fruit, subtle vanilla, and delicate cocoa.

Food and wine pairings

This structured, velvety wine pairs ideally with all meats and cheeses. It matches especially well with grilled or roasted red meats, game dishes, and aged cheeses with notes of hazelnut and caramel.

Serving and cellaring

Masetto Nero 2019 is best enjoyed at a temperature between 16 and 18°C. This wine has excellent aging potential and can be cellared until around 2034, or even longer for bottles stored under optimal conditions.

A fresh and elegant red from Trentino-Alto Adige

The estate

Founded in 1885 by brothers Francesco and Angelo Endrici, the Endrizzi House is among the oldest wine estates in Trentino. Established in San Michele all'Adige in the Trentino-Alto Adige region, it remains in the hands of the fifth generation of the family today. Paolo Endrici oversees general management alongside his wife Christine, while their children Lisa Maria and Daniele represent the new generation. A pioneer in introducing the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grape varieties to the region, Endrizzi also distinguished itself from the 1990s as one of Italy’s first eco-sustainable wineries. The estate farms around 55 hectares of vineyards spread between Trentino and Tuscany.

The vineyard

The Masetto Nero 2019 vines are grown on the ancient dolomitic limestone terroirs surrounding San Michele all'Adige, classified as Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGP. These soils, made up of dolomitic limestone mixed with alluvial deposits, lend the wine its distinctive minerality. The vineyard benefits from a unique microclimate at the crossroads of Mediterranean and Alpine influences, with the Dolomites as a backdrop. The oldest vines are selected for this cuvée and undergo rigorous green harvesting during the summer, deliberately limiting yields to concentrate aromas. The estate practices integrated viticulture, excluding all synthetic chemical products and favoring traditional methods such as the pergola trentina.

Winemaking and aging

After hand harvesting in small crates, Masetto Nero 2019 is vinified using methods that respect the fruit. This Italian wine then undergoes 18 months of aging in barrels, allowing the cocoa and vanilla notes to integrate harmoniously into the tannic structure. This maturation in oak also contributes to the development of toasted notes and to softening the tannins.
