The artistic and biodynamic expression of a great La Clape wine

The estate

Founded in 1992, the winemaking company Gérard Bertrand has become a key reference in the Languedoc region. A former professional rugby player, Gérard Bertrand, the current owner, took over the family legacy before acquiring Château l'Hospitalet in 2002. A pioneer of biodynamic viticulture, he has elevated his estate to become the largest certified biodynamic vineyard in the world. Today, the estate embodies the Mediterranean art of living, passionately combining culture, gastronomy, art and winemaking excellence through cuvées renowned around the world.

The vineyard

Nestled in the heart of the protected La Clape natural park, the vineyard overlooks the Mediterranean Sea from an altitude of around a hundred metres. The vines flourish under a semi-arid Mediterranean climate on two distinct soil types: fossil-rich limestone marl and Mediterranean red soils. The entire estate is cultivated according to the demanding principles of biodynamics and holds organic and sustainable certifications.

Winemaking and aging

After manual harvesting in small crates, the grapes are sorted and destemmed. Each grape variety is vinified separately in temperature-controlled tanks, with a maceration period of twenty to twenty-five days. Following malolactic fermentation, the Château L'Hospitalet "Grand Vin" Art Collection Hervé di Rosa 2023 is aged for twelve to sixteen months in new Bordeaux oak barrels. The final blend is made in February, and bottling takes place on a day determined by the lunar calendar.

Grape varieties

Syrah (60%), Grenache Noir (30%), Mourvèdre (10%).
