Description
Tasting characteristics and advice for Pierre Damoy’s Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru 2015
Tasting
Color
The wine displays a deep garnet hue, reflecting the gradual evolution characteristic of Pinot Noir.
Nose
The bouquet reveals vibrant red-fruit aromas, notably raspberry and cherry, accompanied by delicate floral notes. Subtle smoky nuances add a lightly toasted touch, while hints of cinnamon and fine spices enrich the aromatic palette.
Palate
The attack is elegant and refined rather than powerful. The palate unfolds with exceptional finesse and remarkable complexity, supported by silky yet persistent tannins. The finish lingers at length, gradually revealing mineral nuances that highlight the authentic expression of the terroir.
Food and wine pairings
This grand cru pairs harmoniously with refined game dishes such as rabbit with grapes or spiced pigeon. It also accompanies, with elegance, spicy roast duck, grilled beef, or pan-seared veal. Aged hard cheeses also make a fitting match.
Serving and cellaring
Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru 2015 is best enjoyed at a temperature between 16 and 18°C. Aerating for one to two hours can help younger bottles open up aromatically. This wine can be cellared until around 2030, or even longer under optimal storage conditions.
A Burgundy grand cru expressing the refinement of the Gevrey-Chambertin terroir
The estate
Founded in 1922 in Gevrey-Chambertin, Domaine Pierre Damoy now extends over approximately 10.5 hectares, including 8 hectares classified as Grand Cru. Since 1992, Pierre Damoy, representing the fifth generation of the family, has managed this Burgundy estate with a particular focus on natural viticulture and a drastic reduction in yields. Since June 2025, Champagne House Louis Roederer has become an equity partner of the estate.
The vineyard
This Chapelle-Chambertin takes its name from the Chapelle Notre-Dame de Bèze, built in 1155 by monks. Pierre Damoy cultivates around 2.2 hectares of the appellation’s total 5.5 hectares of Grand Cru. The parcels, planted mainly in 1947 and 1963, lie on clay-limestone soils enriched with traces of potassium, phosphorus, and iron. The southeast exposure and optimal altitude create ideal conditions for Pinot Noir to thrive. The estate practices sustainable viticulture without synthetic fertilizers, favoring compost and individualized attention to each vine.
The vintage
The year 2015 in Burgundy began with early budbreak in early April, followed by a rapid flowering in early June thanks to high temperatures. Summer brought exceptional heat and sunshine, creating moderate water stress for the vines. Temperatures eased in August, with timely rainfall that relieved the vines ahead of harvest. These conditions favored the production of small berries, particularly concentrated, with optimal phenolic ripeness and preserved acidity.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes for Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru 2015 were harvested by hand and then meticulously sorted several times. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled vats, allowing precise management of fermentation temperatures. Aging lasted around 18 months in French oak barrels, three quarters of which were new, adding structure and complexity while preserving the expression of the terroir.
