Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Bruichladdich Micro-Provenance Single Cask #0808
Tasting
Appearance
This single malt displays a deep, brilliant golden hue, reflecting fine visual concentration and a dense texture.
Nose
The bouquet is complex and well balanced. It opens with indulgent notes of light honey, warm cereal and buttery biscuits, accompanied by ripe yellow fruits such as pear and dried apricot. With aeration, a subtle sea breeze brings tension, mingling with fresh vanilla, custard and the fine spices of noble Tronçais oak.
Palate
The attack is broad, rich and almost oily, offering remarkably controlled power. The mid-palate unfolds a dense texture in which crisp malt, hazelnut, golden shortbread and candied fruits intertwine. Gentle spices from the French oak, such as white pepper and ginger, meet a saline touch that gives structure to the whole. Adding a few drops of water reveals notes of dried flowers. The finish is long and deep, marked by a silky imprint of light cocoa, dried fruits and an elegant maritime minerality.
Pairings and Tasting Occasions
This contemplative whisky is ideal for after-dinner sipping, served neat or with a few drops of water in a tulip glass at room temperature. Its aromatic profile pairs beautifully with buttery pastries (yellow fruit tarts, hazelnut financiers), vanilla desserts such as crème brûlée, or moderately intense dark chocolate served with dried fruits. Its subtle salinity also makes for a delicate pairing with pan-seared scallops.
Mixology
As an ultra-exclusive edition and an exceptional spirit, this single cask is intended above all to be enjoyed neat, without artifice. It is not designed for mixology, so as to preserve the full complexity of its terroir and maturation.
Other Characteristics
This single malt is unpeated. It is bottled at its natural strength of 58.8% ABV, without chill filtration or added colouring.
An Exceptional Scotch Single Malt Reflecting the Terroir of Islay and the Highlands
Bruichladdich: The Avant-Garde of Scotch Whisky on the Isle of Islay
Founded in 1881 by the Harvey brothers on the west coast of the Isle of Islay, the Bruichladdich distillery is an iconic name in Scotch whisky. After several closures during the 20th century, it underwent a spectacular revival in 2001, before being acquired in 2012 by the French group Rémy Cointreau, its current owner. Under the technical direction of Master Blender Adam Hannett, the distillery stands out for having preserved its Victorian equipment, notably its tall, narrow-necked stills, which produce a spirit of great purity. A true pioneer, Bruichladdich places terroir, transparency and the exclusive use of Scottish barley at the heart of its identity. As the first Scotch whisky distillery to be certified B Corp, it is distinguished by its deep environmental commitment and its goal of decarbonising its production by 2030.
The Ultra-Exclusive Expression of the Micro-Provenance Single Cask #0808
The Micro-Provenance Single Cask #0808 is a whisky of absolute rarity, embodying the distillery's philosophy of extreme traceability. This non-vintage Single Malt (although aged 14 years, having been distilled in April 2010 and bottled in March 2025) is crafted from rigorously selected raw material: Optic barley grown at Mid-Coul Farm in the Highlands.
A Maturation Between Land and Sea
After being transported to the Isle of Islay for distillation, the spirit underwent a complex maturation by the sea, in warehouse WHS13. Its ageing was carried out in two stages: an initial maturation in a cask that had previously held one of the distillery's own whiskies, followed by a second period in a second-fill virgin Tronçais oak cask. This choice of tight-grained French oak brings a spicy, vanilla-laced structure with great finesse, without masking the purity of the spirit or the saline influence of the Atlantic winds.
A Limited Edition for the French Market
Released in an extremely limited number of bottles (fewer than 300), this Scotch whisky is an ultra-exclusive edition reserved solely for the French market and the brand's ambassadors. It is a genuine study of terroir, capturing the precise moment when continental grain meets the maritime island climate.
