The authentic expression of a great Rhône Valley terroir
The estate
Officially founded in 1996 by Michel Tardieu, the house of Tardieu Laurent is based in Lourmarin, in the heart of Provence. This exceptional négociant-éleveur has established itself as a key reference in the Rhône Valley. Today, the estate is still led by Michel Tardieu, supported by his family, including his son Bastien, an oenologist. A passionate advocate for the pure expression of terroir, the estate stands out for its rigorous selection of grapes from very old vines, cultivated according to organic and biodynamic principles, in close collaboration with numerous partner winegrowers.
The vineyard
The grapes that make up this cuvée come from the Rasteau appellation, a renowned cru in the southern Rhône Valley. The vines, with an average age of 80 years for the Grenache and 40 years for the Syrah and Mourvèdre, thrive on south-facing slopes sheltered from the mistral. This unique terroir, bathed in a Mediterranean climate, is characterized by a mosaic of soils composed of clay-limestone slopes and blue clay, promoting optimal berry ripening while preserving their freshness.
The vintage
2024 brought particularly favorable weather conditions, allowing the berries to reach optimal ripeness. Grenache, the region's flagship grape variety, especially benefited from this mild weather to fully flourish throughout its growing cycle.
Winemaking and aging
The winemaking process includes partial destemming, retaining about a third of whole clusters to add structure. Aging then takes place over a total period of twenty months: the wine first rests for twelve months in French oak barrels from Allier and Tronçais that have previously held one or two wines, before continuing its maturation for eight months in large foudres. To preserve its full authenticity, the wine is bottled without any fining or filtration.
