Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot" 2024 by Bruno Colin
Tasting notes
Appearance
The wine reveals a pale to light yellow hue, adorned with green or golden reflections depending on its evolution.
Nose
Initially reserved, the nose needs a little aeration to reveal its full precision and intensity. It exudes aromas of white fruits such as apple and pear, mingled with notes of citrus and white flowers. The ageing brings subtle buttery and lightly toasted touches, all underpinned by a deep mineral backbone.
Palate
The attack is precise and gives way to a full, robust and generous palate. The texture, both creamy and energetic, is perfectly balanced by lovely freshness and striking minerality. The finish stands out for its exceptional length and persistence, offering delicate woody notes.
Food and wine pairings
This gastronomic wine pairs wonderfully with noble fish such as turbot with beurre blanc, shellfish such as roasted lobster, or white meats with cream and mushrooms. It also goes very well with pressed cheeses such as Comté or Beaufort.
Serving and cellaring
This Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot" 2024 has excellent cellaring potential. It can be enjoyed after a few years of patience and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2034.
The precision and richness of a great white wine from Chassagne-Montrachet
The estate
Heir to a long family tradition within the Burgundy region, Bruno Colin founded his own estate in 2004, following the division of his parents' heritage. Today, he is the sole owner and manager of this 8.55-hectare property. Located in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, the estate spans several prestigious villages and stands out for its meticulous plot-by-plot approach. Here, Bruno Colin crafts wines renowned for their precision, minerality and persistence, faithfully reflecting the richness and complexity of their original terroirs.
The vineyard
This wine comes from the specific "Francemont" plot, covering 0.41 hectare, located within the vast and prestigious Morgeot climat in Chassagne-Montrachet. The vines, planted in 1963, thrive on clay-limestone soils that give the wine both power and finesse. This terroir benefits from organic farming, with mechanical soil work and regular ploughing. The harvest is carried out by hand, accompanied by rigorous sorting directly in the vineyard to retain only the finest berries.
Winemaking and ageing
The vinification of this Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot" 2024 is geared towards the pursuit of complexity and the preservation of aromatic purity. Ageing takes place over a period of 12 months in 350-litre oak barrels, with a measured proportion of 15 to 20% new wood so as not to mask the identity of the terroir. The wine then rests in vats for 4 to 6 months before bottling.
