Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for the Vignes de Nuit Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut 2019 from Maison André Bergère

Tasting

Appearance

The wine displays a pale yellow hue with golden and citrine highlights. The effervescence is delicate and persistent, with fine bubbles rising gracefully in the glass.

Nose

The nose reveals remarkable aromatic complexity. The initial notes evoke white fruits with aromas of mirabelle plum, white peach and nectarine, accompanied by nuances of dried apricot. With aeration, the bouquet is enriched by delicate floral scents and a mineral dimension marked by flint, a hallmark of the limestone terroir of Étoges. Touches of caramel, cocoa and citrus (yuzu, kumquat) complete this aromatic palette, while notes of brioche and linden honey add a subtle indulgence.

Palate

The attack is elegant and creamy. The palate reveals a delicate, fine and fresh structure, carried by a mineral tension reminiscent of fresh lemon juice. The peach and nectarine aromas linger harmoniously, supported by a lively and precise acidity. The finish, decidedly citrusy, offers beautiful aromatic persistence and remarkable verticality.

Food and wine pairings

This champagne pairs perfectly with fresh oysters, tuna carpaccio or delicate grilled or poached fish. It also elegantly accompanies lightly prepared shellfish and fresh fruit-based dishes. Also ideal as an aperitif, it will delight lovers of mineral and taut champagnes.

Serving and storage

The Vignes de Nuit Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut 2019 is best enjoyed at a temperature between 8 and 10°C.

A Champagne Blanc de Blancs of remarkable mineral finesse

The estate

Maison André Bergère, founded in 1949 by Albert Bergère, draws on a family winemaking tradition dating back to 1848 in the Vallée du Petit Morin. Today, Adrien and Annaëlle Bergère, representing the fourth generation, lead this independent family Maison. The estate spans 45 hectares spread across the Vallée du Petit Morin, the Côte des Blancs and the Sézannais. The property stands out for its sustainable viticulture approach, with 12 hectares farmed organically, and for its single-plot winemaking philosophy that highlights the authentic expression of each terroir. Adrien Bergère, a trained oenologist, has revolutionized production methods since 2014 by introducing micro-vinification of 139 distinct plots.

The vineyard

The Vignes de Nuit Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut 2019 comes exclusively from plots located in Étoges, a commune in the Vallée du Petit Morin. This terroir is characterized by limestone and flint soils that give the wine its distinctive mineral signature. These soils, composed of limestone combined with flint elements, promote excellent expression of Chardonnay with remarkable acidity retention and characteristic mineral depth. The vines benefit from attentive viticultural management that prioritizes quality over quantity, with harvesting carried out at optimal ripeness.

The vintage

The 2019 vintage in Champagne proved demanding yet qualitative. After a spring marked by frost episodes and an early summer heatwave, timely rains in late July and early August helped avoid water stress. The ripening period benefited from cool nighttime temperatures in the weeks leading up to harvest, encouraging slow maturation that preserved acidity while allowing full aromatic development. These conditions resulted in wines of a high qualitative level, characterized by their balance and freshness.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes for the Vignes de Nuit Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut 2019 were hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, with an alcohol potential of approximately 11 degrees. After gentle pressing, the juice underwent gravity settling at 16°C. Fermentation was carried out according to the Maison's practices, favoring indigenous yeasts. Aging combined stainless steel tanks and oak barrels, adding complexity and texture while preserving aromatic purity. Malolactic fermentation occurred naturally. In keeping with the Maison's philosophy, no filtration or fining was performed before the final blending and bottling for the second fermentation.
