Domaine des Sénéchaux : Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2007

With hints of honeysuckle, apricot, and pear, medium body, excellent concentration, freshness, and vivacity; drink over the next year.

Very precise, stony style, with blanched almond, heather, white peach and mineral notes that ripple on and on through the lengthy finish. Drink now. 50 cases imported.

In any case, the 2007 white Chateauneuf, which is mostly Grenache Blanc, was full yet fresh, with dried lemon rind, mineral, and subtle lime undertones. It was even a little chalky. Fun wine.

Grenache Blanc 29.5%, Clairette 29.5%, Bourboulenc 8%, Roussanne 33%. With some of the Roussanne aged briefly in new barriques. Now owned by the Cazes family of Pauillac. Some energy on the nose. Sweet start and lots of lively lime flavours on the palate. Just not quite enough follow-through or sap to make it a really great wine. Rich finish. (JR)
