Description
Tasting characteristics and advice for Bourgogne Terroir d'Exception 2022 from Domaine du Château de Meursault
Tasting
Nose
The bouquet opens with notes of lemon and vanilla, accompanied by aromas of juicy yellow fruits reminiscent of Conférence pear. Hints of toasted bread round out this aromatic palette.
Palate
On the palate, the wine reveals lovely freshness and remarkable balance. Its pronounced minerality combines with notes of white flowers and a generous yet precise structure. A delicious touch of vanilla brings roundness, while the finish offers fine saline length, the result of aging on lees and the terroir’s minerality.
Food and wine pairings
This Bourgogne Terroir d'Exception 2022 pairs perfectly with a porcini mushroom risotto, aged Comté, langoustine carpaccio, seafood, or grilled fish such as a zander fillet or plancha-grilled sea bream fillet. Creamy poultry dishes, escargots de Bourgogne, and jambon persillé also make excellent pairings. Soft-ripened aged cheeses such as Brillat-Savarin or Chaource highlight its elegant bouquet.
Serving and cellaring
Bourgogne Terroir d'Exception 2022 is best enjoyed at a temperature between 10 and 12°C in large wine glasses. This wine can be enjoyed through around 2029.
An outstanding white Bourgogne on the doorstep of Meursault Perrières
The estate
Domaine du Château de Meursault traces its roots back to the 11th century, when Duke Robert I of Bourgogne granted the fief of Moulin Foulot. The Cistercian cellars built in the 12th century still bear witness today to this rich heritage. Since late 2012, the Halley family, led by entrepreneur Olivier Halley, has upheld the excellence of this Burgundian estate. Established in the heart of the Côte de Beaune in Bourgogne, the estate farms 60 hectares of organically grown vines planted with pinot noir and chardonnay. This remarkable diversity of terroirs, combined with a thousand-year heritage and modern facilities, makes Domaine du Château de Meursault a benchmark.
The vineyard
This 0.87-hectare plot borders the prestigious Climat Meursault Perrières, hence its name “Terroir d'Exception.” Located mid-slope on flat ground, it benefits from an east-facing exposure. The soil is made up of hard Jurassic limestone consisting of limestone scree and marls. Planted in 1975, these vines occupy a privileged position at the heart of the Perrières sector in Bourgogne, offering chardonnay ideal conditions to express all its finesse and minerality.
Winemaking and aging
Bourgogne Terroir d'Exception 2022 is crafted using traditional methods. After rigorous hand sorting, the grapes are pressed and then settled. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in oak barrels over 15 days. The wine is then aged on fine lees for 15 to 18 months in oak barrels, 25% of which are new, with the remainder made up of barrels that have held one or two wines. Bâtonnage is carried out every two weeks during the first six months to bring richness and complexity to the wine.
