Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Côte-Rôtie "Maison" 2023 Les Alexandrins

Tasting

Colour
Red in colour, this wine reveals an alluring deep hue with ruby and plum highlights.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet is complex and harmonious, blending scents of wild blackberries, cherry and spring flowers such as violet. Delicate smoky touches reminiscent of ash, combined with notes of mocha, spice, graphite and minerality, further enrich this olfactory palette.

Palate
The attack offers a dense, unctuous texture, supported by silky, velvety tannins that are perfectly integrated. The whole shines with elegance, purity and fine balance, stretching into a long aromatic finish marked by nuances of liquorice and violet.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs beautifully with red meats, lamb, game or spicy dishes. It will also brilliantly accompany a board of matured cheeses.

Service and storage

For optimal enjoyment of the Côte-Rôtie "Maison" 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 16 and 18°C. Decanting for one to two hours before serving is advised. Approachable from its youth, this wine can also age favourably in the cellar and be enjoyed until around 2030.

The contemporary expression of a Côte-Rôtie terroir by Les Alexandrins

The estate

Born in 2015 from the merger of two entities, Maison & Domaines Les Alexandrins is the result of a partnership between Nicolas Jaboulet, Guillaume Sorrel and Alexandre Caso, the current owners. Located in Tain-l'Hermitage, in the Rhône Valley, the estate oversees 78 hectares of vineyards certified organic. Combining the historical heritage of winemaking families with a contemporary approach, the estate distinguishes itself through its commitment to enhancing forgotten plots and producing wines that blend tradition and modernity.

The vineyard

The grapes destined for this Côte-Rôtie come mainly from the southern part of the appellation, in the areas of Côte Blonde and Coteau de Tupin. The vines are planted on steep slopes arranged in terraces. The terroir is characterised by a granite bedrock partly covered with schist, sand and limestone soils, ideal conditions for shaping wines marked by finesse.

The vintage

The year 2023 began with a mild winter followed by a wet spring. The summer period was marked by strong instability, alternating between episodes of hail and periods of drought. Despite a complex harvest spread from mid-August to the end of September, yields proved generous.

Winemaking and aging

The production of the Côte-Rôtie "Maison" 2023 begins with maceration and fermentation lasting around twenty days. Pump-overs are carried out initially, followed by punching down towards the end of the process. The wine is then aged for fifteen months, split between once-used barrels and 60-litre demi-muids.
