Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for Cannubi Boschis 2007 by Sandrone Luciano

Tasting

Appearance
An intense ruby hue, almost black, is revealed, accompanied by thick tears that reflect its concentration.

Nose
Intense and pure, the nose expresses aromas of dense black fruits, notably wild blackberry, enhanced by hints of bramble and licorice. The bouquet evolves toward notes of fresh fruits such as cherry and raspberry, elevated by floral fragrances of rose and violet, along with delicate spicy touches reminiscent of clove. The whole reveals a balsamic, ripe, and mellow character.

Palate
The palate stands out for its compactness and freshness, revealing a beautiful structure and great suppleness. Notes of blackcurrant and pit fruit emerge, while the mid-palate unfolds its power with silky, well-integrated tannins. The whole lingers on a very persistent finish, reflecting a remarkable balance between power and finesse.

Food and wine pairings

This Barolo pairs ideally with red and white meats as well as pasta with sauce.

Service and cellaring

It is recommended to serve this wine at a temperature of 16°C.

An exceptional Barolo from the mythical terroir of Cannubi Boschis

The estate

Founded in 1978 by Luciano Sandrone, the estate is an essential reference. Located in the Piedmont region, it now covers 27 hectares of vineyards spread across Barolo, Serralunga, Castiglione Falletto, Novello, and Roero. Since Luciano’s passing in 2024, the Sandrone Luciano estate has been run by his family: his wife Mariuccia, his daughter Barbara, his brother Luca as oenologist, and his grandchildren Alessia and Stefano. The estate embodies Piedmontese excellence thanks to its mythical Cannubi Boschis parcel and its unique “Sibi et Paucis” extended aging project.

The vineyard

The Cannubi Boschis vineyard is located in Barolo, benefiting from southern and southeastern exposure at an altitude of 250 meters. The vines, averaging 30 years of age, are rooted in shallow calcareous and clay soils, interspersed with scattered sandy layers. These particular geological and climatic conditions give the wine its typicity and unique character.

The vintage

The year 2007 began with a mild and dry winter, leading to budbreak 20 days earlier than usual. Summer temperatures were within seasonal averages. These climatic conditions allowed optimal grape ripening, resulting in a harvest carried out from September 24 to 30, approximately 15 to 20 days earlier than normal.

Winemaking and aging

This wine underwent gentle maceration for 9 to 12 days in stainless steel tanks, followed by alcoholic fermentation lasting 25 days, also in stainless steel. Malolactic fermentation continued until the end of December 2007 in 500-liter French oak barrels, 25% of which were new. The wine was then aged for 24 months in these same barrels, followed by a further 20 months of bottle aging.

Grape variety

Nebbiolo (100%).
