Description

Tasting notes and serving advice for Cannubi Boschis 2010 by Sandrone Luciano

Tasting

Nose

The nose reveals a complex and precise aromatic profile dominated by red fruits. Notes of cherry, raspberry, and wild strawberry emerge, enhanced by floral and spicy nuances.

Palate

On the palate, this Barolo offers great fruit concentration and a remarkable structure. The aromas evolve toward crushed black cherry, accompanied by notes of exotic spices, licorice, sage, and black pepper. The tannins are velvety and well integrated. The finish stands out for its length, power, and remarkable aromatic persistence.

Service and cellaring

Cannubi Boschis 2010 can already be enjoyed today. However, this wine has exceptional aging potential and will continue to improve through around 2050.

An exceptional Barolo from the legendary Cannubi terroir in Piedmont

The estate

Founded in 1978 by Luciano Sandrone in the village of Barolo, in Piedmont, the Sandrone Luciano estate now spans 27 hectares of vineyards spread across Barolo, Serralunga, Castiglione Falletto, Novello, and Valmaggiore. Since the founder’s passing in 2024, the estate has been run by his daughter Barbara, his brother Luca, his wife Mariuccia, and his grandchildren Alessia and Stefano. A pioneer of Barolo’s revival in the 1980s, Sandrone Luciano stands out for a philosophy balancing traditional methods with a forward-looking modern vision.

The vineyard

The Cannubi Boschis vineyard is located in the village of Barolo, on the famous Cannubi hill. The vines benefit from a southeast exposure and grow on moderately compact marl soils.

The vintage

The 2010 vintage in Piedmont was characterized by a long growing cycle. Winter brought significant precipitation, followed by uneven budbreak. Summer saw moderate temperatures without excessive heat. The harvest allowed the grapes to reach full ripeness.

Winemaking and aging

Cannubi Boschis 2010 is crafted with a terroir-driven approach. Spontaneous fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in open steel vats. Malolactic fermentation and aging occur in 500-liter French oak casks. This specific cuvée “sibi et paucis” benefited from an additional six years of bottle aging after its initial release in September 2014.

Grape variety

100% Nebbiolo.
