Description

Tasting Characteristics and Advice for the Chablis 1er cru "Les Lys" Domaine Long-Depaquit 2023 from Albert Bichot

Tasting

Appearance

The wine displays a pale yellow color with golden highlights.

Nose

The nose reveals a delicate bouquet with aromas of white flowers and citrus. Lemon notes bring an appealing aromatic freshness, while a fine, crystalline minerality characteristic of the appellation emerges with elegance.

Palate

The palate charms with its chiseled elegance and remarkable tension. This wine shows a distinctive iodine-like character that is very typical of Chablis. The balance between crystalline acidity and a fruit-driven structure offers a silky, generous texture. The finish is remarkably persistent, with a tangy edge that brings plenty of energy and vibrancy.

Food and Wine Pairing

This Chablis 1er cru "Les Lys" Domaine Long-Depaquit 2023 pairs perfectly with seafood, especially scallops and shrimp. It also matches beautifully with white-fleshed fish prepared raw, marinated, or grilled. A fresh tuna tartare makes an ideal pairing. Shellfish such as buttery lobster or grilled spiny lobster also find a perfect companion in this prestigious white wine.

Serving and Cellaring

The Chablis 1er cru "Les Lys" Dom. Long-Depaquit 2023 can be enjoyed young to appreciate its fruity expression and fresh minerality. This wine also offers cellaring potential for an additional five to seven years, gradually developing greater complexity and depth.

A Chablis premier cru true to the crystalline minerality of its Burgundian appellation

The Estate

The Albert Bichot House, founded in 1831 by Bernard Bichot in Monthélie, is an independent, family-run institution in Burgundian winemaking. Led since 1996 by Albéric Bichot, the sixth generation at the helm of the company, the House now owns vineyards spread across several estates covering Burgundy from north to south. Domaine Long-Depaquit in Chablis, acquired in 1970, is among the House’s most important estates. The House stands out for its pioneering commitment to organic farming, with several certified estates and many organic cuvées available. Albert Bichot embodies Burgundian excellence through a philosophy that combines respect for terroirs, non-interventionist winemaking, and a sustainable vision.

The Vineyard

The "Les Lys" parcel lies on the left bank of the Serein, overlooking the villages of Chablis and Milly, halfway up the slope. It benefits from an atypical east-northeast exposure, an inherently cool area where grapes ripen slowly and gradually. This slow maturation ensures remarkable finesse and vibrancy in the wines. The vines are planted on clay soils with few stones, over a Kimmeridgian marl subsoil—geology more than one hundred and fifty million years old. This distinctive substrate, rich in marl and small oyster fossils, gives the wines their unique typicity, crystalline purity, and signature minerality.

The Vintage

The year 2023 proved particularly favorable for Chablis. The vintage offers expressive wines with lovely fruity notes and a fine mineral intensity characteristic of the appellation. It stands out for its remarkable balance between quality and quantity, allowing enthusiasts to enjoy these wines soon while also benefiting from excellent aging potential.

Winemaking and Aging

The Chablis 1er cru "Les Lys" Domaine Long-Depaquit 2023 is crafted through a resolutely sustainable approach combining rigorous yield control with deliberately non-interventionist winemaking. This philosophy makes it possible to produce authentic, mineral, elegant wines that reflect the subtleties of their terroir of origin. The estate has its own vat room, an environmentally respectful facility pursuing the goal of qualitative improvement by giving the wines greater purity and aromatic precision.

Grape Variety

100% Chardonnay, a noble white grape variety historically suited to Chablis’ cool terroirs and internationally recognized for its ability to express a sense of place.
