The estate
Founded in 1831 in Monthélie before settling in Beaune, the house of Albert Bichot is now led by Albéric Bichot, a representative of the family's sixth generation. This independent, family-owned grower-négociant relies on six estates spread from the north to the south of Burgundy, totalling more than 100 hectares farmed using organic or sustainable practices. Renowned for its mastery of terroirs, the house is also among the principal buyers at the Hospices de Beaune auction.
The vineyard
The "Les Amoureuses" climat lies within the commune of Chambolle-Musigny, between the villages of Vougeot and Morey-Saint-Denis, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. Regarded as the most celebrated of the Premiers Crus of Chambolle-Musigny, this terroir holds a place apart within the village's appellation hierarchy, producing Pinot Noirs of great finesse.
The vintage
In Burgundy, the 2023 vintage proved generous in volume, with yields above the five-year average in the Côte de Nuits. The weather nevertheless demanded particular vigilance, as the area experienced heavier summer rainfall than elsewhere in Burgundy, increasing the risk of rot. A heatwave during the harvest also caused some scorching of the berries, making grape sorting essential to preserve quality.
Vinification and ageing
The vinification of the Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Amoureuses" 2023 involves a maceration lasting several weeks, followed by ageing in oak barrels for approximately 14 to 16 months, part of them new. The wine is transferred by gravity to preserve all the delicacy of the fruit, in keeping with the house's characteristic minimal-intervention approach.
Grape variety
This wine is made from Pinot Noir.
