Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er cru Monopole Château Gris 2022 from Albert Bichot

Tasting

Appearance

The wine displays a brilliant ruby-red color.

Nose

The bouquet reveals great elegance, harmoniously combining red and black fruit aromas (raspberry, strawberry, blackcurrant) with delicate floral notes (rose, violet, peony) and subtle woody nuances.

Palate

On the palate, this wine charms with its suppleness and reveals aromas of ripe, fleshy fruit, supported by refined tannins. The balance between minerality and power defines the palate, while a pleasant sensation of freshness lingers through the finish.

Food and wine pairings

This Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er cru Monopole Château Gris 2022 is an ideal match for roasted or braised meats such as beef, lamb, duck, or game. It also pairs beautifully with a beef fillet served with a confit shallot sauce. Semi-aged to well-aged Bourgogne cheeses also make excellent companions.

Serving and cellaring

The Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er cru Monopole Château Gris 2022 is best enjoyed at a temperature of 16-17°C. This wine has a minimum aging potential of 5 to 7 years, allowing the aromas to fully develop and the tannins to become even more supple.

A Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru monopole from a unique terroir

The estate

Founded in 1831 in Beaune by Bernard Bichot, the Albert Bichot House is one of the oldest and most respected houses in Bourgogne. Owner of more than 107 hectares of vineyards spread across six exceptional estates, the House remains family-run and independent under the leadership of Albéric Bichot, the sixth generation at the helm since 1996. A pioneer in organic viticulture, certified since 2018, Albert Bichot now offers 47 organic wines, a unique range in Bourgogne. The House stands out for its commitment to sustainability and the faithful expression of Bourgogne terroirs.

The vineyard

The Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er cru Monopole Château Gris comes from a 3.4-hectare vineyard located on a hillside to the southwest of Nuits-Saint-Georges. The vines cling to rare terraces in Bourgogne, planted on steep slopes between 260 and 330 meters above sea level. The soil is composed of a mix of clay and limestone resting on Bathonian marl layers from the Middle Jurassic. This unique geological makeup, combined with an east-facing exposure, gives the wine a distinctive minerality and characteristic bright tension. The parcels near the château are exclusively planted with Pinot Noir for the production of this red Premier Cru. Due to the steep slope, plowing is carried out using horses, a practice that respects the soil ecosystem.

The vintage

The 2022 vintage is defined by a warm, dry climate with distinctive features. The summer was exceptionally hot, tempered by a significant storm at the end of June that brought around 20 centimeters of rain, benefiting the vines. This summer downpour maintained acidity in the grapes, while the subsequent heat allowed sugars to build up. Rain in mid-August revitalized the vines after marked water stress, enabling balanced ripening. Two weeks of dry, windy conditions preceded the harvest, promoting grape concentration. This vintage produces classically styled reds, combining lovely freshness, finesse, and elegance with the fullness typical of a sufficiently ripe year.

Vinification and aging

The Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er cru Monopole Château Gris 2022 is harvested by hand. After careful sorting, the grapes are fed into the vats by gravity. Fermentative maceration takes place in temperature-controlled wooden vats for 18 to 21 days. Racking is carried out manually without pumping, and pressing is done under low pressure. The wine is transferred into barrels by gravity after only 8 to 24 hours of settling. Aging takes place entirely in oak barrels for 16 to 17 months, with 35 to 40% new oak. Regular bâtonnage develops aromatic complexity. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration.
