Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for the Barbaresco 2023 by Ceretto

Tasting

Colour
This wine reveals a brilliant ruby hue with subtle garnet highlights.

Nose
The bouquet is highly complex, combining elegant scents of violet and dried flowers with hints of medicinal and balsamic herbs. Aromas of raspberry, morello cherry and blackcurrant are enhanced by notes of liquorice root, sweet spices, bitter cocoa, roasted nuances and blond tobacco.

Palate
Medium-bodied, this wine offers a remarkably fine, almost silky tannic structure. The fragrant, nuanced flavours evolve towards a long finish marked by lovely freshness and savoury harmony.

Food and wine pairing
This cuvée pairs beautifully with flavourful, slightly rich meats, such as a fine cut of beef, braised pork or duck confit. It is also a perfect match for slow-cooked dishes, mushroom or truffle risottos and fresh pasta served with a meat ragù. When it comes to cheese, opt for hard, salty varieties such as Parmesan or Pecorino.

Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate the Barbaresco 2023, serve it at a temperature of 16–18°C, taking care to decant it or open it 30 to 45 minutes before tasting. Thanks to its firm structure and extended ageing, this wine has considerable cellaring potential.

A fresh and elegant Barbaresco wine by Ceretto

The estate
Founded in the 1930s by Riccardo Ceretto, the estate has established itself as a true benchmark name in Piedmont. Located near Alba, this family business is now run by the second and third generations, with Alessandro Ceretto heading up the technical management. The vineyard covers around 120 to 160 hectares, including 21 prestigious hectares dedicated to the region's flagship appellations. A pioneer in showcasing single crus, the estate stands out for its environmental commitment, combining stylistic modernity with sustainable viticulture.

The vineyard
The grapes come from plots located on the heights of the commune of Treiso, as well as from the renowned Asili cru, in the heart of the Barbaresco appellation. These high-hillside terroirs benefit from marl and limestone soils rich in clay and ancient sands. All the vines are farmed according to certified organic principles, complemented by rigorous biodynamic practices to preserve the natural balance and biodiversity of the environment.

The vintage
The 2023 vintage stands out for weather conditions that achieved an ideal balance, giving the grapes lovely fruity ripeness while retaining excellent natural freshness.

Winemaking and ageing
The making of the Barbaresco 2023 begins with extended skin maceration during fermentation, drawing out the very essence of the grape variety. This Italian wine is then aged for twenty-four months in a combination of oak barrels and large casks, before completing its maturation in bottle.
