Robert Parker

Robert M. Parker, Jr.

Somewhat one-dimensional and simple, as are many 2000s, but with loads of fruit and moderate sweetness; this offering should be drunk over the next decade.

Weinwisser

Bright, brilliant yellow. Expansive, sweet bouquet with a delicate hint of botrytis. Balanced, pleasantly sweet palate flow, light apricots, mirabelles, medium finish, slightly clumsy sweetness.

01: Luminous, brilliant yellow. Expansive, sweet bouquet; delicate hint of botrytis. Balanced palate with pleasant sweetness; light apricots, mirabelles, medium finish with a slightly clumsy sweetness. (16/20). 08: We drank the wine to conclude a dinner at du Tertre. Childhood memories came to mind. Above all, apricot syrup. Unfortunately, the wine is rather clumsy and low in acidity.

Hollow, fresh bouquet with citrus and vanilla. Soft, somewhat heavy and rich palate with pronounced sweetness and little acidity. Long, broad finish. 15/20 2010 - 2020

Bettane+Desseauve

Unattractive iodized notes on the nose; clearly a challenging harvest that resulted in a bitter white-peach stone fruit character, overly pharmaceutical.

Yellow-green color. Medium-intensity nose. Discreet. Aromatic. A touch of lavender. Floral. Spicy when swirled. The nose of this wine suggests a great cru origin. On the palate, the body is medium, slightly watery, aromatic, and could undoubtedly be even more distinctive in texture. Best enjoyed young.

La RVF

Still very fresh on the palate, with a pronounced acidity on the finish, Coutet perfectly expresses its Barsac character. Hardly developed aromatically, it shows remarkable youthfulness. Time will make it even more complex—wait for it.

Description

2000 Barsac 1er Cru Classe

Chateau Coutet deeply rooted vines express fresh, rich, and strong character of the terroir. The 2000 vintage is 90% Semillon, 9% Sauvignon Blanc, and 1% Muscadelle produced in Barsac appellation.

This 1er Cru Classe displays a solid gold colour with old gold shades. The vintage is more focused on finesse than concentration. Pleasant aromas, discreet yet very elegant, combine beeswax and gingerbread with more subtle notes of candied fruits, peach liquor, and dry fruit (hazelnut). The palate reveals supple and soft offering evolving into appealing iodized mineral notes and smother flavours: mild spices, vanilla, and Mirabelle plum compote. The luscious finish carries medium length, typical of contrasted growing season all the while boasting originality.
