Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the Marsannay Village "Es Chezots" 2023 Château de Marsannay

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a ruby red hue of beautiful depth, enhanced by hints of violet.

Nose
Expressive, the nose reveals aromas of fresh red fruits such as cherry and raspberry, mingled with notes of stewed fruit. Subtle spicy and floral touches, along with mineral and earthy nuances, complete this bouquet.

Palate
The attack is direct and opens onto a full, supple mid-palate. The tannins are round and well integrated. The whole, both generous and juicy, extends into a lingering finish.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs harmoniously with beef fillet, roasted free-range chicken, or white meats accompanied by classic sauces. It also complements small game such as quail beautifully, as well as dishes featuring wild mushrooms.

Service and storage

For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve this Marsannay Village "Es Chezots" 2023 at a temperature between 16 and 18°C, after decanting for around 30 minutes. This wine can be enjoyed young but will continue to evolve favourably until around 2038.

Other characteristics

The Precision of a Unique Marsannay Terroir

The estate

Located in France, at the gateway to the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy, Château de Marsannay was built in 1990. Acquired in 2012 by Olivier Halley, its current owner, the estate covers around forty hectares. Under the direction of Stéphane Follin-Arbelet and Sylvain Pabion, the estate stands out for its environmentally respectful approach, crowned by organic certification in 2022. The estate favours minimal-intervention winemaking and a meticulous plot-by-plot approach, aiming to faithfully express the uniqueness of each climat.

The vineyard

The "Es Chezots" plot covers around two hectares within the Marsannay appellation. Facing east and located halfway up the slope, the vines benefit from a cool microclimate thanks to their position at the confluence of two valleys. This geographical setting slows down grape ripening. The soils are composed of clay, silt, and sand, resting on marl, which brings a beautiful mineral complexity. The vineyard is farmed according to organic principles.

The vintage

The year 2023 began with early budbreak in April, followed by an uneven flowering in May. Summer was marked by episodes of intense heat in June and August, punctuated by some rainfall. Thanks to the plot's cool situation, the vines were protected from excessive temperatures. Although yields were reduced, the harvested grapes were in optimal health, with thick skins and beautiful concentration.

Winemaking and aging

The Marsannay Village "Es Chezots" 2023 is harvested by hand, followed by rigorous sorting. The harvest is partially destemmed, retaining a proportion of whole clusters. After a cold soak in stainless steel tanks, fermentation lasts two to three weeks with gentle punching down and pumping over. Aging then takes place for 13 months in French oak barrels, 20% of which are new, before finishing with three months in stainless steel tanks prior to bottling.

Grape variety

This wine is made from 100% Pinot Noir.
