Vinum

The wine often stands out for its lavender blossom notes; this year, the aromatic profile is particularly pronounced. Candied fruits and mandarin complete the bouquet; the palate is full-bodied and very opulent, with plenty of sweetness and intensity, yet with freshness; the finish is exceptionally long. In its style, it shows very high complexity.

Decanter

Mirabelle plum, dried apricot and orange blossom on the nose, smells lovely. Crisp and cool, not overly sweet, still a little tight and focused all in one line rather than enveloping the mouth. I like the freshness, it’s a nice counter to the sweetness with salted caramel, pineapple and mango as well as peach and apple too but maybe missing a touch more flesh at this point. Still, it’s super refined with real elegance and detail. Clean and clear, grippy with some honeyed sweetness. I like this a lot.

Vivid white mango and apricot, packs a punch with a silky texture and offers clarity of exotic fruit flavours with white flowers on the finish. Tasted twice. Owner Derek Smith. Harvest September 16 to October 8.

Yves Beck

Inviting and intense, the bouquet of Rayne Vigneau reveals a wealth of nuances, with aromatic herbs, ripe apricots and a chalky touch… among other notes! Dense on the attack, the wine gradually unfolds across the palate, without exuberance, with precision and freshness. A harmonious wine with a superb interplay of sweetness and character. Indeed, it shows a incisive tension that underpins its character and freshness, set against an added backdrop of generosity. A true tightrope walker!

Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of Château de Rayne Vigneau 2025

Tasting

Appearance
The wine reveals a luminous medium golden yellow color, enhanced by delicate silvery highlights.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet shines through its purity and precision. It unveils intense aromas of fresh yellow fruits, dominated by peach and apricot. As the wine opens up, a beautiful floral complexity underscores the elegance of the noble rot.

Palate
The attack is particularly elegant, offering a moderate fruity richness where flavors of tropical fruits and honey intertwine, enhanced by a subtle spicy note. The whole is beautifully balanced by a precise acidity that brings remarkable freshness and great vivacity, stretching the wine toward a finish of impressive length.

Food and wine pairings
This great sweet wine is the traditional and quintessential companion to foie gras. It also creates bold and refined pairings with seafood and shellfish, such as lobster, crab, or oysters. At dessert time, it will perfectly elevate yellow fruit tarts, such as mango, peach, or apricot.

Service and cellaring
To fully appreciate the vivacity of this vintage, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of around 14°C. While it already offers great pleasure in its youth, this wine has considerable cellaring potential and will develop a fascinating aromatic complexity after a long stay in the cellar.

Other characteristics
This sweet wine displays a beautiful sweetness with 146 g/L of residual sugars. Its balance is ensured by a pH of 3.93 and an acidity of 3.37 g H₂SO₄/L. The production of this vintage comes from a very low yield of 9 hl/ha.

The excellence of a Premier Grand Cru Classé of Sauternes

The estate
Established under its current name in 1834 by Madame de Rayne, Château de Rayne Vigneau stretches over 84 hectares in Bommes. Although its winegrowing origins date back to the 17th century, it was in the 19th century that the estate forged its legend, achieving the rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1855. Today, the estate is run by the Trésor du Patrimoine group, which carries on the excellence of this unique terroir, famous for its soils dotted with semi-precious stones.

The vineyard
Nestled on one of the highest ridges of the Sauternes appellation, the terroir peaks at 75 meters in altitude. The vines, averaging 46 years old, thrive on an exceptional geological mosaic composed of clay-gravel soils and clays over a starfish limestone plateau. The estate practices sustainable farming, certified HVE level 3, respecting the environment and promoting the optimal development of botrytis thanks to the morning mists from the Ciron.

The vintage
The 2025 winegrowing year proved both paradoxical and miraculous in the Bordeaux region. Despite climatic challenges, the conditions made it possible to achieve ideal concentration while preserving the balance of the berries. The manual harvest took place from September 16 to October 15, requiring four successive sortings to select only the grapes perfectly roasted by noble rot.

Winemaking and aging
Traditional vinification in barrels followed by 18 months of aging in oak barrels, 30% of which are new. Alcohol content: 13.5% vol.

Grape varieties
70% Sémillon and 30% Sauvignon Blanc.
