A Vin de France with an innovative blend crafted using the Solera method

The estate

Acquired in 1997 by Jean-Marie and Maine Guffens-Heynen, Château des Tourettes is located in the Rhône Valley, near Apt in the Luberon. The estate spans around 15 to 17 hectares of vines at an altitude of 420 meters. Today, their daughter Marie manages the property. From the moment it was acquired, Jean-Marie Guffens-Heynen completely restructured the vineyard by planting grape varieties atypical for the area, leading the estate to produce wines classified as Vin de France rather than under the Côtes du Luberon appellation.

The vineyard

Tinus Solera 1622 is a Vin de France made from the Château des Tourettes plots located at 420 meters above sea level in the Luberon. The vines benefit from limestone and clay soils that give the wines a fine tension between aromatic richness and mineral freshness. The estate farms around 8 hectares of red grape varieties including syrah, cabernet sauvignon and grenache. Harvesting is carried out by hand, with strict sorting in the vineyard to select the finest berries.

The blend

Tinus Solera 1622 represents a major innovation for the estate, as it is the first red wine made using the Solera method. This ancestral technique consists of blending several vintages to create greater complexity. This blend brings together vintages from 2016 to 2022, combining the freshness of younger wines with the sophistication of more mature wines.

Vinification and aging

Tinus Solera 1622 was created in 2016 as part of a collaboration with consultant oenologist Stéphane Derenoncourt. This cuvée bears the name Tinus in tribute to Jean-Marie Guffens-Heynen’s grandfather, a farmer and miller in Flanders. It represents the pinnacle of the estate’s production and is made exclusively from the first juices of the pressing.

Grape varieties
