Description
An ample and delicate Saint-Julien grand cru
The estate
Officially born in 1840 following the fragmentation of a vast historic estate, Château Léoville Las Cases stands today as a true benchmark of prestige within the Bordeaux vineyard. Led by Jean-Hubert Delon, the current owner from a long family lineage, the estate spans 98 hectares of vines. Often referred to as a "Super Second" or the "First of the Second Growths", this château enjoys worldwide renown thanks to its strong identity, producing wines of remarkable longevity.
The vineyard
Located at the heart of the Saint-Julien appellation, the exceptional terroir of the Grand Enclos stretches out facing the Gironde estuary. This proximity to the river creates a protective microclimate against frost and conducive to early ripening of the berries. The vines thrive on a complex mosaic of soils, dominated by Quaternary gravel resting on gravelly-sandy and gravelly-clay subsoils, with a few outcrops of compact clay. This unique geology ensures optimal drainage and ideal water stress.
