Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Clos Naudin Vouvray "Sec" 2024

Tasting notes

Colour
The hue of this white wine reveals itself in a pale golden shade with subtle straw highlights, offering remarkable, luminous brightness.

Nose
The bouquet opens on a mineral, flint-driven core typical of its terroir. With aeration, it releases elegant aromas of fresh mirabelle plum and citrus fruits such as bergamot, along with notes of white flowers and pear, all underscored by delicate smoky touches.

Palate
The attack is lively and vibrant, carried by a lovely lemony acidity. The mid-palate reveals a chalky texture and beautiful breadth, unfolding flavours of lemon, lime and candied citrus. The finish stretches out with great elegance and length, closing on a fine bitterness and mineral notes.

Food and wine pairing

This Vouvray "Sec" pairs wonderfully with raw or marinated seafood such as ceviche or fish tartare, as well as oysters. It also enhances poached or grilled white fish served with a butter sauce, poultry, or a fresh goat cheese.

Service and storage

Although this 2024 vintage is already very approachable in its youth, it has the structure to evolve beautifully in the cellar. It can be enjoyed now or kept until around 2054.

Other characteristics

This wine has a resolutely dry profile, with a residual sugar level of approximately 3.5 g/l.

The mineral elegance of a great white Vouvray

The estate

Founded in 1910 by Armand Foreau, Domaine du Clos Naudin is a key reference in the Loire Valley. Located in the northeast of the appellation, this family estate spans just over eleven hectares. Today, Vincent Foreau, representing the fourth generation, leads the estate with passion, upholding a minimal-intervention philosophy. The year 2024 marks a historic milestone for Clos Naudin with the official obtaining of organic certification, crowning decades of environmentally responsible practices.

The vineyard

The vines, averaging 35 to 45 years old, thrive on the prestigious terroirs of the Vouvray appellation, notably on the historic plots of Les Perruches and Les Ruettes. Ideally south-facing, they benefit from optimal sun exposure on mid-slope terrain. The soils consist of green clay and silica, rich in flint, resting on a limestone bedrock known as tuffeau. The vineyard is maintained through regular ploughing and the use of organic fertilisers, with hand-harvesting carried out in successive passes.

The vintage

The year was marked by a particularly cool and humid growing season. These climatic conditions favoured slow, moderate ripening of the berries, extending the vine's cycle. This specific weather pattern helped preserve freshness and aromatic finesse in the grapes.

Winemaking and aging

Fermentation takes place slowly, at cool temperatures, using indigenous yeasts, in mostly old 300-litre oak barrels. To preserve maximum tension, malolactic fermentation is strictly avoided and no chaptalisation is carried out. The wine is then aged for approximately eight months in these same vessels, before undergoing two rackings and a filtration ahead of bottling the following spring.
