Nose
The nose reveals citrus aromas, notably lemon and grapefruit, accompanied by notes of honey and dried fruit. Vanilla and slightly spicy touches mingle with a beautiful mineral expression evoking gunflint.
Palate
On the palate, this wine combines power and delicacy. The texture is rich and creamy, with flavours of white-fleshed fruit such as peach and apricot. Acidity brings freshness and liveliness, while the mineral and saline finish lingers persistently.
Food and wine pairings
This Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "Les Reisses" 2020 pairs perfectly with noble shellfish such as langoustines and lobster, particularly with butter sauces. It also pairs very well with rich fish like turbot, white meats in creamy sauce, a green asparagus risotto or matured goat cheeses.
Service and storage
It is recommended to serve this Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "Les Reisses" 2020 at a temperature between 12 and 13°C. Slight aeration for about one hour allows the wine to fully reveal its aromas.
A Pouilly-Fuissé Premier Cru combining minerality and concentration
The estate
Founded in 1945 in Burgundy, Domaine Cordier Père et Fils is established in the village of Fuissé, in the heart of the Mâconnais. Managed today by Christophe Cordier, the estate spans approximately 31.5 hectares spread over more than 120 plots across nine communes. Renowned for his perfectionist and demanding approach, Christophe Cordier has converted the entire vineyard to organic and biodynamic farming, obtaining AB and Demeter certifications in 2024. The estate stands out for its commitment to revealing the potential of each terroir through respectful viticultural practices and low-intervention vinification.
The vineyard
The "Les Reisses" Climat is one of the twenty-two Premier Crus newly classified in the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation since the 2020 vintage. Located in the commune of Fuissé, this terroir benefits from an east to south-east exposure. The clay-limestone soils, rich in calcite and particularly stony, confer the wine its characteristic mineral structure. The Domaine Cordier Père et Fils plot covers only 0.32 hectares, planted with old Chardonnay vines. The vines are managed according to biodynamic principles, with treatments applied manually and the use of animal traction to preserve soil life. Short Guyot pruning to five buds and severe disbudding help limit yields and concentrate aromas.
The vintage
The 2020 vintage in Burgundy benefited from favourable weather conditions, with a sunny character while preserving beautiful freshness. This year also marks the first vintage to benefit from the new Premier Cru classification for the "Les Reisses" Climat, made official in November 2020.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes for the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "Les Reisses" 2020 are harvested manually at full phenolic maturity. After gentle whole-bunch pressing, the must is transferred by gravity into 500-litre barrels. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged on lees for 12 months in barrels, followed by 8 months in stainless steel vats, totaling approximately 20 months, without lees stirring. Bottling is done by gravity, without fining and with minimal filtration, in order to preserve the natural expression of the terroir.
