Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Amoureuses" Joseph Faiveley 2020 Domaine Faiveley
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a brilliant ruby hue, enhanced by luminous highlights characteristic of its terroir.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet stands out for its great finesse, blending aromas of small red fruits such as raspberry, strawberry and cherry with delicate floral notes of violet and a subtle mineral touch.
Palate
On the palate, this medium-bodied wine offers a silky, delicate texture, supported by vibrant acidity and a solid tannic structure. The fruit expression is remarkably pure, lending the whole a remarkable balance.
Food and Wine Pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with feathered game such as partridge, pheasant or pigeon. It also elegantly accompanies roast lamb, farmhouse capon or roast veal. When it comes to cheese, opt for soft varieties such as Brillat-Savarin, Reblochon, Brie de Meaux or Chaource.
Service and Storage
The Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Amoureuses" Joseph Faiveley 2020 reveals exceptional ageing potential and may be enjoyed until around 2040. For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of between 12 and 14°C in its youth, and between 14 and 16°C after several years in the cellar.
The Delicate Expression of a Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru
The Estate
Founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Faiveley is a historic figure of Burgundy. Now led by the seventh generation, embodied by Erwan and Eve Faiveley, the estate oversees a vast vineyard of around 130 hectares. The domaine stands out for its deep commitment to biodiversity and sustainable viticulture, with a major conversion to organic farming. Combining respect for tradition with a modern outlook, the family strives to produce wines that reflect the purest expression of their respective terroirs.
The Vineyard
The Les Amoureuses climat is a prestigious 5.4-hectare Premier Cru located to the south of the Chambolle-Musigny appellation, in the Côte de Nuits. The vines flourish on south-southeast-facing slopes, at an altitude ranging between 250 and 300 metres. This distinctive terroir rests on predominantly limestone soils, mixed with clay and marl, offering excellent drainage. The high proportion of active limestone gives the grapes a unique identity, at the root of the aromatic finesse typical of this area.
The Vintage
The 2020 vintage was characterised by a particularly early growing cycle. Following an early spring budburst, May proved warm and bright. Summer was marked by constant heat, without extreme peaks, but with cooler nights. Persistent drought from June to August led to lower yields while encouraging strong concentration in the berries. The harvest, historically early, was completed as early as the beginning of September, allowing for the preservation of fine natural acidity.
Winemaking and Ageing
Under the technical direction of Jérôme Flous, the making of the Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Amoureuses" Joseph Faiveley 2020 follows a philosophy of minimal intervention. Fermentations and macerations are carried out with gentle extraction, with the utmost respect for the integrity of the fruit, in order to preserve the natural clarity and elegance of the terroir.
