Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for Meursault Village "Les Tessons" 2023 Domaine Pierre Morey

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a pale yellow hue with lemony highlights, of great brilliance and clarity.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of summer fruits such as fresh lemon, green apple and stone fruits, underscored by delicate hints of acacia blossom. On aeration, a deep minerality comes through in nuances of wet chalk and gunflint, rounded out by subtle spicy touches of ginger.

Palate
The palate offers a creamy texture and remarkable breadth, perfectly balanced by a crystalline acidity. Citrus and white fruit flavours mingle with mineral and hazelnut notes, leading to a long, silky and delicately saline finish.

Food and wine pairing

This French white wine pairs wonderfully with delicate-fleshed noble fish, such as scallops or lobster roasted in cream. It also perfectly complements white meats in sauce, such as roast chicken in butter, as well as soft-rind cheeses like chaource or époisses.

Service and storage

To fully appreciate this Meursault Village "Les Tessons" 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of between 10 and 12°C. This wine, suited for ageing, can be kept in the cellar, laid down in darkness, to reveal its full complexity, and will be ideal to drink until around 2034.

The mineral and crystalline expression of a great Burgundy wine

The estate

Officially founded in 1971, the Domaine Pierre Morey is a key reference in Burgundy. Backed by a family heritage rooted in the region since 1793, Pierre Morey has guided the estate towards excellence. Today, the vineyard is run by his daughter, Anne Morey, joined by her son Jean-Victor. A pioneer, the domaine has practised organic farming since 1993 and holds biodynamic certification, guaranteeing wines of great purity that faithfully reflect their terroir.

The vineyard

The plot from which this wine originates, covering an area of 0.89 hectares, is ideally located on a mid-slope within the Meursault appellation, at an altitude of around 260 metres. The vines, nearly fifty years old, thrive on a steep and rocky terroir. The bedrock, a hard Jurassic limestone, lies at a very shallow depth, forcing the root system to dig deep to give the wine its characteristic minerality. The vineyard is entirely farmed biodynamically.

The vintage

The year 2023 ranks among the warmest on record in the region. After a growing season marked by rather cool, cloudy conditions until mid-August, an extreme heatwave suddenly set in. These exceptional temperatures called for an early harvest, in order to preserve the freshness of the berries while ensuring optimal concentration and ripeness.

Winemaking and ageing

For this Meursault Village "Les Tessons" 2023, the grapes are harvested by hand. After gentle pneumatic pressing and light settling, alcoholic fermentation begins naturally through indigenous yeasts in oak barrels. Ageing on fine lees lasts between 16 and 20 months, with regular stirring of the lees (bâtonnage). Bottling is carried out by gravity, most often without prior filtration, in order to preserve the wine's aromatic integrity.
