James Suckling

Lively red fruits of strawberries, red cherries, and violets, followed by a mix of spices and fresh herbs. Medium-bodied, with fine and sophisticated tannins and delightful acidity. An elegant, artful wine with beautiful purity and complexity. Already fascinating now, but it will go further as it ages. Try after 2027.

Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for La Quinta 2022

Tasting

Colour
The glass reveals a magnificent luminous ruby hue, enhanced by subtle garnet reflections. Its crystal-clear clarity and moderate viscosity reflect a beautiful harmony between freshness and concentration.

Nose
Particularly elegant, the aromatic bouquet opens with scents of red fruits such as ripe cherry, wild strawberry and plum. This fruity backbone is enriched with floral nuances of violet, herbs typical of the region and cedar, all lifted by a touch of aniseed, clove and a delicate mineral imprint.

Palate
The palate offers superb balance, carried by refreshing acidity and tannins that are both supple and well-structured. It reveals indulgent flavours of raspberry and cherry, blended with floral and herbaceous notes and a touch of spelt. The long, lively finish lingers on fruit and a fine minerality, leaving a sensation of great purity.

Food and wine pairing
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with traditional Italian specialities such as pasta dishes with tomato sauce, roasted meats or a platter of aged cheeses. Its versatile profile also allows it to accompany more contemporary culinary creations.

The elegance and purity of a great red wine from Tuscany

The estate
Born from the vision of renowned oenologist Carlo Ferrini, the Giodo estate came into being in 2002 with the acquisition of a first plot of land in Tuscany. Located on the prestigious terroir of Montalcino, the estate embodies the culmination of a long career devoted to winegrowing. Today, Carlo Ferrini runs the estate alongside his daughter Bianca Ferrini, who brings an international and contemporary dynamic to the family project. Equipped with an ultramodern winery since 2020, Giodo stands out for its sustainable approach and unique expertise, giving rise to cuvées recognised worldwide for their excellence.

The vineyard
The grapes for this cuvée come from vines planted on gently sloping hillsides facing south-east, at an altitude of between 300 and 400 metres. The terroir consists of marl and limestone soils, enriched with clay and gravel. The estate applies organic farming methods, favouring natural irrigation and the use of compost. A unique manual technique is practised here: it involves braiding the young shoots together to avoid pruning the vine, thereby limiting its vegetative stress.

Winemaking and ageing
In order to preserve the brightness of the fruit, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. The wine then benefits from a short maturation period in large oak barrels, a method that enriches its texture while preserving optimal freshness.
