The nose is reserved but conceals great depth of fruit, and the palate is unctuous and spicy with caressing tannins. Richly built, yet with a gentler hand than in some years. Tannins are present but finely honed. A great expression of Merlot.

This is a big and dense red with plenty of fruit and powerful tannins. Full-bodied, with a solid core of fruit and ripe tannins, and a long, flavorful finish. Like a traditionally styled red from a great vintage decades ago, but it’s today’s rendition. Try in 2022.

An intense cherry liqueur penetrates the senses before yielding to the essence of lilies, irises, and Gourdon flowers. A profusion of tobacco, cocoa, and hints of blueberries wafts through the olfactory receptors as you sip this fine 100% Merlot. This wine is like rare Turkish velvet woven around a lingering note of licorice, dark chocolate, and espresso. The supple textures really carry through from the delectable start to the scrumptious finish. 94 - 96 Pts

Inky, subtly toasty aromas, a touch of chocolate, sweet blackberry confit, subtle nutty notes. Powerful, black-berry fruit underpinned by spicy and peppery notes, vivid tannins, persistent, a mineral, salty aftertaste, fine chocolate and ripe cherry on the finish; it has good future ageing potential.

Even more impressive, the 100% Merlot 2015 La Fleur De Bouard Le Plus is a vineyard/parcel selection from clay and limestone soils that was brought up all in new oak. This sensational, full-bodied, viscous 2015 boasts a deep purple color, awesome notes of cassis and black currant fruits, lots of truffle, smoke, herbs and a meaty character, sweet tannin, and most of its oak covered by a wealth of fruit. It’s a gorgeous wine and I suspect one of the best efforts out there from this appellation. Drink it anytime over the coming two decades.

On the palate, it is full-bodied, with a massively concentrated texture; the tannins, however, show roundness, and the acidity knows how to support this tour de force. Thanks to its potential, it should withstand the relatively long ageing period well.

Dark, intense, and deep color. An intense nose, fruity with truffle notes. Soft and velvety right from the attack, then juicy and highly aromatic mid-palate, caressing yet also rich. The wine progresses on a beautiful texture, with wrapped tannins and a long, sappy finish. It’s very good.

92–94. Barrel Sample. The wine is 100% Merlot from old vines. It is tight, tannic and concentrated with the potential for richness that is still to show. Powered by its structure, this micro-cuvée needs a long time for aging.
