Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for "La Grenade" 2025 by M. Chapoutier

Tasting

Appearance
This red wine reveals a delicate light ruby hue illuminated by vivid carmine highlights.

Nose
With great aromatic purity, the bouquet exudes intense aromas of crushed strawberries, sweet spices, and dried flowers.

Palate
A generous attack gives way to a silky palate. As the tasting unfolds, persistent aromas of candied orange zest, rose petal, strawberry coulis, and dried rose emerge.

Food and wine pairings

This cuvée pairs wonderfully with delicate poultry, feathered game such as roasted quail, or Mediterranean-inspired dishes like ratatouille. On the cheese side, it will ideally accompany pressed cheeses with herbs or subtle blue cheeses.

The elegance and purity of a biodynamic Châteauneuf-du-Pape

The estate

Founded in 1808 and historically based in Tain-l'Hermitage, the Maison M. Chapoutier is a true institution of the Rhône Valley in France. Now led by Michel Chapoutier, an iconic figure and pioneer of biodynamic viticulture certified Demeter since 1991, the family estate stands out for its absolute pursuit of terroir expression. Joined by the new generation, represented by Mathilde and Maxime Chapoutier, the estate continues a philosophy that combines tradition, respect for living ecosystems, and innovation, thus shining across the globe.

The vineyard

From the prestigious appellation Châteauneuf-du-Pape, this parcel selection comes from a specific lieu-dit. This singular terroir is characterized by soils composed of the famous rounded quartzite pebbles, resting on reddish sandy clays and a molasse subsoil. These stones store daytime heat and release it at night, promoting optimal berry ripening. The entire vineyard is farmed according to the strict principles of biodynamic agriculture, with all harvesting carried out by hand.

The vintage

A vintage that began with a rather mild and very rainy winter, building up good water reserves, followed by a long cold spell delaying budburst and reducing the risk of frost. Spring, alternating between rain and sunshine, led to strong vegetative growth and increased pressure on the vines, with early flowering but few grape clusters. The summer was marked by two heatwaves and a hail episode in Crozes-Hermitage, causing some losses. The harvest, early from mid-August, was spread out thanks to late-August rains that refined ripeness levels.

Winemaking and aging

The winemaking of "La Grenade" 2025 is designed to preserve the freshness and brightness of the fruit. Fermentations take place in small concrete vats, using exclusively indigenous yeasts. In order to extract tannins very gently and enhance aromatic complexity, a proportion of 30% whole clusters is retained during the process.

Grape variety

This wine is made exclusively from Grenache Noir.
