M. Chapoutier : Les Bécasses 2017

The raspberry and blueberry-scented 2017 Cote Rotie les Bécasses is produced mainly from purchased grapes, sourced across the entire appellation. It's firmed up a bit since last year but remains approachable, being medium to full-bodied on the palate and lined with silky tannins.

Layers of smoke and dark chocolate, leather and black olive mingle seamlessly into raspberry and blackberry flavors in this wine. While fine, penetrating tannins lend a taut feel, it's a freshly balanced Syrah that's inviting already. At peak now–2027.

Quite a floral expression with red flowers, woody spices and mixed berries, as well as a fresh, lithe and peppery feel. Long, fleshy and assertive palate with plenty of flesh, depth and length. Power with elegance here. Try from 2024.

The entry-level Côte Rôtie is the 2017 Côte Rôtie Les Bécasses, which offers classic notes of black raspberries, gamey meats, pepper, and tapenade, and spice. These carry to a medium-bodied Côte Rôtie that has ripe, sexy tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish.
